9 DECEMBER 2017 BODY OF CHRIST NEWS Has Trump Even Commited a Crime? With so many uniquely interesting articles printed in last month’s edition of BOC News, it would be dif- ficult to address each of them. I did, however, decide to focus on the opin- ion piece. While I agree that President Trump has said some things that have been less than flattering, it is also inter- esting to note the call for impeach- ment based solely on emotion and MSM histrionics! Perhaps accepting BS [Blatant Sensationalism] put out by the liberal media is easier than doing the research. The piece was jam packed with heart-rending stories, personal ideol- ogy, and historical accounts. There is even the mention of past presidents and what would have trans- pired had any of those individuals said the things this president has said. There was talk about a call made to a family of a soldier killed in an ambush, perhaps the very ambush that he himself orchestrated. Maybe President Trump was aware of the soldier’s activ- ities and was being delicate! Maybe, as reported, the words of the president were not contextually shared by MSM. But with all of the emotional, heart gripping, name-dropping, and specu- lation, nothing was mentioned that spoke to any actions that give cause to impeachment! Obama wasn’t impeached, although he committed treason against America. A list of some of the many offenses is: 1. Obama’s Iran nuke deal 2. Obama knew about Hillary’s private email server 3. Obama IRS targets conservatives 4. Obama’s DOJ spies on AP reporters 5. Obamacare & Obama’s false promises 6. Illegal-alien amnesty by executive order 7. Benghazi-gate 8. Operation Fast & Furious 9. 5 Taliban leaders for Bergdahl 10. Extortion 17 11. ‘Recess ‘ appointments – when Senate was in session 12. Appointment of ‘czars’ without Senate approval 13. Suing Arizona for enforcing federal law 14. Refusal to defend Defense of Marriage Act 15. Illegally conducting war against Libya 16. NSA: Spying on Americans 17. Muslim Brotherhood ties 18. Miriam Carey 19. Executive orders 20. Solyndra and the lost $535 million 21. Egypt 22. Cap & Trade: When in doubt, bypass Congress 23. Refusal to prosecute New Black Panthers 24. Obama’s U.S. citizen ‘hit list’ Carter wasn’t impeached although he was almost as inept as Obama. Clinton was impeached because he lied to congress. And when he was impeached, the House of Representatives consisted of a small majority of republican congressman, with even some democrats joining the call for impeachment! The continued rhetoric about Trump’s lack of political savvy being reason to impeach has gotten to the point of being nauseating. Yes, he has no filter. Yes he can be insensitive. No, he doesn’t play politics. But he has done nothing that warrants impeach- ment! Perhaps studying the laws and rules associated with such a request would end, once and for all, the call for such a request! [In the event some don’t want to do the research] A good place to start would be with the federal law, specifically 18 U.S.C. 1503. The criminal code demands more than what Comey reportedly describes in his memo. There are doz- ens of different variations of obstruc- tion charges ranging from threatening wit- nesses to influencing jurors. None would fit this case. That leaves the omnibus provi- sion on attempts to interfere with the “due administration of jus- tice.” However, that still leaves the need to show that the effort was to influence “cor- ruptly” when Trump could say that he did little but express con- cern for a longtime associate. The term “corruptly” is actu- ally defined differently under the vari- ous obstruction provisions, but it often involves a showing that someone acted “with the intent to secure an unlaw- ful benefit for oneself or another.” Encouraging leniency or advocating for an associate is improper but not necessarily seeking an unlawful ben- efit for him. At this time, there’s no evidence Trump actually committed a crime. If President Trump does anything that meets the threshold for impeachment, I will be one of the first to lead the call. Until then, let’s be about the business of unifying America! OPINION Nathan O'Neal By Dr. Nathan L. O'Neal Obama wasn’t impeached, although he committed treason against America.
