Yet, people took the streets in protest against the new president elect. Of course, it was part of God’s plans according to a few local ministers. Rev. Acen Phillips, a now retired minister and long-time activist in the Denver community, said Trump won because people believed in him. “It’s unfortunate that the Democrats take the Black community for granite. It’s amazing how we got Hillary Clinton to win in Colorado. Although, she came to Colorado five times, she never set foot in the black church,” stated Phillips after a prayer meeting that took place among elected officials and ministers after the November 8th election. “For generations here in Colorado, the Democratic Party has totally ignored the black vote. There was no support for Rhonda Fields from the Democratic Party, even though she won the caucus and elec- tion.” Rev. Phillips, however is proud of the election outcome of having eight blacks elected to represent Colorado – two to the state senate and six to the state house of representatives. Nationally, Phillips said Hillary Clinton lost in major industrial states because that is where people were hurting, had no jobs and she didn’t reach out to them. “My prayer is that the system will change. Donald Trump overcame every- thing. He targeted all the people hurting and that is a good business decision,” added Phillips. “My prayer also is that he makes a good investment in America, those impoverished communities in our nation and black businesses.” “The system has been strangely against the poor. The poor are paying more taxes and the rich folks are enjoying the benefits. Even a simple thing as a person who can’t afford to get their (license plate) tags on time because they are too poor, then there is an extra $25 up to$100 late fee to pay when you are already broke to begin with.” Rev. Phillips’ hope is Present-elect Donald Trump will make a sound investment in America. “The faith community needs to stand up and lift him up. He did not steal this elect. He won this elec- tion. It is wrong for us to be protesting when he won it fair and square.” Rev. Dr. Ade of Kingdom Connection Christian Center in Aurora brought leaders together to pray for the country after the election. This was a prayer session for the United States of America. It was for President-elect Donald Trump and our elected officials, whether Democrat or Republican. We needed to pray for our leaders so that we can live a peaceful and quiet life,” he said. Steve House, chairman of the Colorado Republican Committee, state senate elect Rhonda Fields, minis- ters and others joined the prayer session. “Saul did not know God. But when oil was poured on him he became another man – it is something about the anointing that made him become another man,” explained Rev. Ade. “The way politics has become in this country, it’s hard for any man to have dignity for himself and his children and put them- selves out there.” “There is a spirit of fear now. When fear is released it paralyzes rational thinking. So we have to rebuke that spirit of fear and instead release the spirit of love and having sound mind.” Only God is in charge. And as Rev. Ade further expressed, “I don’t have the answers but only God has the answers. And when we pray things do happen.” By Sheila Smith POLITICS
