20 BOCNEWS.com NOVEMBER 2017 Thank you, Pastor Dotson In due season…Galatians 6:9 says “let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” This New Testament scripture sums up perfectly the twenty-year tenure of Rev. Jim Dotson as pastor of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pastor Jim Dotson retired from Trinity Missionary Baptist Church on October 31st, 2017. There is no doubt of Pastor Dotson’s impact at Trinity and in the greater Colorado Springs area. His ministry is to be of service and that service is not limited to the congregation of Trinity Baptist Church. Sis. Detra Duncan, a Deaconess at Trinity, says “Pastor Dotson is affectionately known as the ‘Community’s Pastor’”. This is a title that is well-deserved, for Rev. Dotson can be seen around town at the court house, the Springs Rescue Mission, hospitals, and school houses. He has been com- mitted to making the Pikes Peak Region a better place for all. Compassion for those going through has been a hall- mark of his teach- ing and life. Let’s be honest…we ALL go through. Pastor Dotson reminds us frequently that we are either coming out of a storm, in a storm, or on our way to a storm. Then commitment and love for our community guides his actions. Rev. Dotson served as the president of the Black Ministerial Alliance (Colorado Springs), and in this capacity, worked closely with El Pomar Foundation, one of the region’s leading philanthropic benefactors. Pastor Dotson is well-known in and out of the faith community as a praying pastor. He prays for all the believers and the non-believer. He believes in the power of prayer and knows prayer changes things. Rev. Dotson is a well-respected man and community leader and I am glad and honored that I know him in this regard and have worked with him in this regard. Although he is known as the “Community’s Pastor’, Jim Dotson is Trinity’s Pastor. Mrs. Shirly Carr, long-time Trinity member, says “Pastor Dotson is a beloved pastor, we appreciate him in so many ways.” Jim Dotson became our pastor after serving thirty years in the U.S. Air Force obtaining the rank of Colonel. Service to others defines who he is. His service to Trinity has been uncompromising. He has been a visionary leader rooted in “Thus sayeth the Lord.” He preaches and teaches Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ crucified, and Jesus Christ resurrected. His favorite Bible verse is the 23rd Psalm, and we all know that his favorite song is, “I love the Lord, He Heard my Cry”; this song really speaks to Pastor Dotson’s experiences, and his faith. Under his exemplary leadership, our church has learned to be a compassionate church, and a com- munity-centered church where we live our mission of equipping the saints to serve. Thank you, Pastor Dotson! Thank you for your time…the time you spent serv- ing and praying for the Colorado Springs Community and for your flock. We’ve reaped the benefits of what you’ve sown. Now it’s your season. You did not get weary in your service, and you did not give up. Now is the time to reap your harvest of love, goodwill, bet- terment for our community, and service to all. You reap the knowledge that you have made an impact and changed us all for the good.
