HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE, some wearing hooded sweatshirts, carrying bags of Skittles or cans Arizona Ice Tea, marched through Denver to the state capitol March 26 in honor of slain Florida teen Trayvon Martin, who was shot by a neighborhood watch volunteer.

The 17-year-old, Black high school student was returning from convenience store last month, dressed in a “hoodie”, when George Zimmerman, who is being described as a white Hispanic man, decided that Martin looked suspicious, called 911 and started to follow Martin against the 911 operator’s requests.

A few minutes later, police arrived at the scene to find Martin on the ground with a fatal gun shot wound to the chest. Martin was carrying only the candy and tea.

Zimmerman has not been charged with any crime. He told police he shot Martin in self defense.

Many people say they think the case is nothing less than racial profiling incident, and civil rights activists across the nation are demanding that Zimmerman be arrested.

Denver marchers also protested several local issues, largely dealing with police brutality. The march was organized in part by the Colorado Progressive Coalition.
