"We ought to live holy and godly lives as we look forward to the day of God and speed its com- ing" (2Pet 3:1,17). Friends, I'm not perfect. I struggle with the things of this world just like everyone else does. However, if I were not looking for my Lord to come every minute of the day, I would fall right back into the ways of this world, claiming that I am saved and bound for heaven. If your preacher is NOT teaching about the Soon Coming of our Lord, his heart is still into the world. The preaching of prosperity has caused most church goers to think that financial blessings are a sure indication that God is approving their life style and their interpretation of scripture. Unfortunately, the unsaved communities have developed a bitter taste with Christianity (2Tim 3:1-3). God's loving kindness is for sure being stretched way too thin in these very last days. The misuse of church funds along with clergy divorces and sexual immorality among church leaders has for sure given the grace of our Lord a black eye. New believers are now falling under a false impression of what true Biblical Christianity is. They are basing their salvation experience on fresh relationships, entertainment, inspiration and feelings, instead of the Words of God. All being handed down by "highly successful, inspirational" and wealthy power speakers. And yes, it's now trickling into the smaller local churches. Are preachers today, who are under the stress of competition and money, truly ministering the truth of Jesus Christ? Why be critical? This modern day church is slipping into the darkness, offering a cheep salvation to a lost world looking for hope. According to the WORD, when the lost come into the church for hope and salvation, they should be hearing that this world, that has destroyed their lives, is about to BURN! Unfortunately, many are being encouraged to take another glance, and another chance at this life, instead of forgetting what is behind, and then pressing on towards the goal to win the Deceptive Hearts ... continued from page 4 Continued on Page 22 Let You Tell It! “Fathers, do not provoke your chil- dren to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord”, — Ephesians 6:4” Today more and more youth violence is on the minds of many of us, because it is on the rise. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in five high school students reported being bul- lied last year and one in seven report- ed being bullied by text, Instagram, Facebook, or other social media. Homicide was reported as the 3rd lead- ing cause of death for youth between the ages of 10 and 24. It was the num- ber one cause for African American youth. Everyday, 14 young people are murdered and 1,300 are treated in the ER for nonfatal assault-related inju- ries. These statistics are no stranger to Colorado. The recent shootings in Arapahoe and Douglas counties are evidence of the violence we are seeing in our state. On May 6th a teenager was fatally shot in Aurora by an 18 year old male. The shooting was the third juvenile homicide in the city this year. On May 7th a school shooting occurred in Highlands Ranch at the STEM Charter School. One student was killed and eight others were injured by two youth. “According to Aurora Police Chief Metz, this recent surge of violence among young people illustrates a bigger soci- etal problem that police can't solve alone”. Therefore, I pose the question... “How can we as community members work with the police to reduce and pre- vent youth violence?” Because some- thing has to change... As we have wit- nessed over the years, youth violence affects entire communities. It is going to take law enforcement, community members, youth, and parents working together to create safe and supportive communities where young people can thrive and reach their full potential. The City of Aurora is embracing this idea of community and law enforce- ment coming together. On Saturday, June 22nd the city will host a youth expo to address juvenile crime from 10:00 am to 2 pm. The expo will take place in front of the Aurora Municipal Center located at 15151 E. Alameda Pkwy on the “Great Lawn”. The goal of the event will be to connect youth with existing services and help develop the infrastructure for some more long term preventive measures. For more information on the June 22nd Aurora Youth Expo visit auroragov.org and click on events. The community corner is an oppor- tunity for community members to dis- cuss what is on their mind. Everyone is invited and encouraged to share their thoughts, views and comments on issues that impact our communi- ties and neighborhoods.
