Pride carries with it the fear of falling below the image we wish to convey to other people. Pride makes us more concerned about our reputation than our character. Arrogance is one characteristic that is truly dangerous, especially for those in authority. Sitting in positions of power, prestige, and privilege can easily seduce people into thinking that they got there solely by their own abilities and assets. Furthermore, they can begin to assume that rules that apply to others don't apply to them. King Uzziah of Judah fell into that pit- fall of pride (2 Chr. 26:16). He was young when he came to the throne, but he suc- ceeded because he honored God and listened to the wise advice of the prophet (Zec. 26:1-5). But in his later years, after he had achieved many military victories, he made the mis- take of presuming to perform temple rites reserved only for the priests, which led to his downfall (Zec 26:26:16-21). Scripture offers many examples of people whose pride and ambition blinded and eventually destroyed them, just to name a few; Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, resisted the Lord's command to let the Israelites go. This brought down plagues on his people and eventually led to the destruction of the firstborn of his nation as well as his military forces (Ex. 6:1; 8:15; 15:1-18). Solomon, David's successor, allowed his idola- trous wives to turn his heart away from the Lord. God promised to divide his kingdom and raised up adversaries against him (1 Kin. 11; compare Eccl. 2). Lucifer, God's chief angel, was cast out of heaven and committed to eternal destruction after he made it his ambition to exalt himself above the Lord (Is.14:12- 17). Lucifer became so jealous of God that he felt people should worship and honor him. That was a big mistake, there is only one God. When we are in pride, we try to go life alone. Pride keeps us from hearing and heeding the Word of God. We cannot accept counsel and grace from others. However, there are some issues in our lives in which God will send a man or woman to assist us. No matter how great and important we think we are, there are some things in which we need the help of others in the body of Christ. All of us struggle with the issue of pride to some degree at some time. Let's look at this scripture to remind ourselves that God is the source of all that we have and all that we are. “And it shall be, when the Lord thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildest not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; Then beware lest thou forget the Lord, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.” (Deuteronomy 6:10-12) Excuse me….as I close this out having a little talk with the Lord. “ Heavenly Father, I remind myself that it was You who brought me out of the bondage of sin. I remind myself that all that I have comes from Your hand alone. I remind myself that all of my gifts and abilities have their source in You, and that the anointing that runs over me flows from Your breath. As I live in Your presence I ask that I never forget You. Heal me and cleanse me from any area of pride- any area where I have forgotten You. I thank You and Praise You in Jesus name Amen. Rev.
