For the past 3 years, Walker, has been heavily involved in the Fair Share Jobs Incorporated, a non- profit organization helping people find jobs. “It’s about giving back to the commu- nity and no one is getting paid for this,” says Walker. “We help open doors for our people to get jobs. I have been here 50 years fighting for our community and trying to make a difference.” Walker said the former KDKO radio station was the backbone and big part of helping to make a difference in the black community. “Our people are the last to get hired, first fired and don’t get into the doors. With the Fair Share Jobs, we are getting people into the doors of busi- nesses.” The main problem today, Walker said is people have to go online to apply for a lot of these jobs and don’t get to talk to an actual person. “I think our people feel discour- aged when filling out these applica- tions online and get- ting no response,” he added.” “Fair Share Jobs helps open those doors so you can talk to someone. Even if you don’t the job, it’s an encouragement just to know someone listened and gave me an opportunity.” Walker also said it is important the community comes together and individu- als should network in order to help others get jobs. On Saturday, Oct 22, Walker and the Fair Share Job organization will be hosting a commu- nity festival in the parking lot off Sable and Alameda in Aurora. The festival is open to everyone and will include job booths, health care and resource booths, along with free food and activi- ties for children. Del T. Phillips. Rev. Phillips is the senior pastor at the House of Worship Center in Denver. He is also the president of the Denver Ministerial Alliance and leader of the Colorado Black Leadership Caucus. While this country is in crisis, it is impor- tant people be more united, Rev. Phillips states in his message to everyone. A mes- sage that he said God placed on his heart to share. “We are a nation born out of conflict, breaking free from a sovereign mon- archy that created an atmosphere of taxation without representation and corrupt overt oppression. But the fore- fathers of this nation who earmarked the birth of this country tempered it with their personal values,” Rev. Phillips stated. “So I have great concerns during this present day when it appears our forefathers’ desires to have a more perfect union has devolved into a loss of continuity.” He continued: “I am trying to under- stand how does a country that leads in global economic growth, leads in technology and development, has the greatest military strength end up fail- ing so miserably when it comes to socialization.” “Why can’t we be a nation that is a safe haven for many people who want to come here and become part of this great melting pot. Why are we now so subdivided? After 240 years of becoming an independent nation, our country has become unraveled by social topography or fancy word for saying divided economically, politically and even racially.” “What happened to the recognition that we are men and women part of the same human race.” As Rev. Phillips explained that no mat- ter how he chooses to vote, he still questions who is really going to win? “I am challenging us as a people – not black people, not white people, and not brown people – but people who are citizens of this United States to ask the question of who wins.” “When I cast my vote in November, am I going to win? If I am not going to win then am I supporting a system that allows the people to lose? “That is the question heavy on my heart. We are not a country of red vs.blue, Black vs. White, and we no longer the north vs. South. We are one nation under God.” “Those who have a faith relation- ship and a God we believe in should become an example in helping change our nation back to that perfect union – one nation under God….. And let the church become the first responder.” Dr. Daddio Del Phillips By Pastor Del Phillips COMMUNITY
