As God fearing people, are we truly interested in authentic knowledge? Not only is self knowledge the foundation for all knowledge but it is the foundation for spiritual health. Unfortunately, very few of us spend the time we need to study, and learn ourselves; especially when it comes to our health. We are quick to run to a doctor who will tell you what is wrong with you. You are with your body 24 hours a day. You wake up with your body. You go to sleep with your body. You eat with your body. You work with your body. You do everything with your body. The point is nobody knows your body better than you do. God has provided us with the blueprint to under- stand and take care of our temples. Have we lost so much faith in the creator that we allow doctors to have the final say over such a spiritual entity? This is not to discount the wonderful work that doctors do. If you get into a car accident, please get to the hospital right away. If you slice off your finger, please get to the doctor right away. If you experi- ence any trauma that is the result of an external event, please get to the doctor right away. But if you are diagnosed with high blood pressure, because chances are you will, knowledge of self is what you need, not a doctor. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes or cancer, because 50% of our population has been, knowledge of self is what you need, not a doctor. Our bodies provide warning signs improperly labeled as disease, which are simply messages from GOD to change what we’re eating, what we’re think- ing, or how we’re living. I firmly believe that GOD has provided us with everything we need to care for ourselves. Revelations 22:2 says – In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, the tree of life, which bare twelve fruits, and yielded her fruit every month and the leaves of the tree for the healing of the nations. Genesis 1:29 says – And God said, behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which upon the face of all the earth and every tree, in which the fruit of a tree yielding seed to you it shall be for meat. Proverbs 15:17 says – Better is a small serving of vegetables with love than a fattened calf with hatred. I think you get the point. Ancient remedies consisted of cultivated herbs and plants that were used for medications and general overall health. God Doesn’t like Junk Food is a book that takes a look at the wisdom and the blueprint God provided for us to treat our bodies like the temples they are. Right eating is the quickest way to a relationship with God. It is a way to honor the human existence we’re experiencing as spiritual beings. From fasting to prayer to selfless behavior, what we eat controls who we are. If you have the desire to prevent or spiritually treat disease, most any disease you can think of, and God’s medicine has been highlighted and laid out to us in plain and simple English is RayeQueen’s newest book God Doesn’t Like Junk Food available on rayequeen.com, amazon.com, or as an e-book. Street Cred Mixing a little western cowboy eth- ics into the lifestyles of urban youth has proved successful. The highly positive program Street Cred works to help At-risk youth who are potential drop outs, affiliated with a gang or just failed in school. The program started back in 2002 as a 501C 3 funded program under direc- tion of Spin Enterprises Incorporated, according to Riley Robert Hawkins. “We make sure the program is based around promoting positive issues for today’s youth and get them motivated to stay in school along with other incentives,” said Hawkins. Currently, the program includes a 14-week curriculum that is based at Jefferson High School. However, Hawkins said the program has been approved to be at Hope Academy School. “It’s been a very suc- cessful program and our data shows there has been improvements made in attendance, behavior and self-respect,” he said about those youth who have participated. Street Cred is an interactive based program that does focus on problem solving, building effective life style skills, and directing students in their daily decision making. Street Cred adapted its principles from the book “Cowboy Ethics: What Wall Street Can Learn from the Code of the West” by James P. Owen. ■ ■ Live each day with courage ■ ■ Take pride in your work ■ ■ Finish what you start ■ ■ Do what has to be done ■ ■ Be tough, but fair ■ ■ When you make a promise, keep it ■ ■ Ride for the brand ■ ■ Talk less and say more ■ ■ Remember some things aren’t for sale ■ ■ Know where to draw the line Hawkins added how youth in the program also participate in equine- assisted therapy at a horse ranch. Horses are great therapeutic animals to work with. “It helps their self-esteem and rela- tionship building…. and they have more respect for themselves,” he explained. The bottom line is that these At-risk students end up more equipped with powerful tools to help shape their future. Have we lost so much faith in the creator that we allow doctors to have the final say over such a spiritual entity? The impact of Sickle Cell on families in our community is alarming with income and housing shortfalls and lack of funds this event was used not only to bring awareness of the Sickle disorder but of the number of families who are homeless, or un- or under employed. Colorado Sickle Cell Executive Director, Donna Dixon, states, “This is vitally important to our community because Sickle Cell disease affects our families in larger numbers than others, and because it was originally thought to only affects people of color. Sickle Cell disease has not been as well funded for treatment or research, as has other chronic diseases. As such, local fundraising is critical for improving the quality of life for those we serve in our community, according to Annie Howard, President Mt. West Chapter Top Ladies of Distinction. Colorado Sickle Cell Association is a community-based organization that has been in existence since 1974 and has provided services for hundreds of sickle cell clients in the Colorado area.
