As a professional transformation and fitness coach I have noticed that most people do not remain on the new regi- ment because they focus on their external condition instead of their internal state of mind. Fitness starts from the head down not the shoulders down. Mental fitness is equally as important if not more important than physical fitness. Changing ones lifestyle over- night can be a challenge and a bit stressful. Heading to the gym and challenging your body or running for 6 miles can be counterproduc- tive in the end if your mind is not ready for the shift. If you want to make changes in your life you first need to deter- mine what is preventing you from being success- ful. The cause is almost always the way you are using your mind the way you are thinking. For as he thinketh in his heart so is he Eat and drink saith he to thee but his heart is not with thee Proverbs 237 It is not possible to think both negative and posi- tive thoughts at the same time. One or the other will dominate. The mind is conditioned by consis- tent thought patterns so its your responsibility to make sure that positive emotions and thoughts are the dominating influence in your mind. A cheerful heart is good medicine but a crushed spirit dries up the bones Proverbs 1722 To change external conditions in your life you must first change from within. Omitting this step will render your efforts ineffec- tive and the results will be at best temporary. You must change your thoughts and beliefs to truly change. Train yourself to think thoughts of joy success happi- ness health and prosperity while removing negativity fear and worry. Just as water takes shape of the vessel that contains it whether it is a cup a bottle or a pond your mind will create and demonstrate the images you consistently think about daily. This is how your des- tiny is created. Your new life can be created by new thoughts. Fill your mind with great expectations ensuring that your thoughts are consistently focused on what you truly want in your life. In the same way that we fast from food and make New Years commitments to eat healthier we should commit to take a mental fast from nega- tive thoughts and conversation. I call this a men- tal diet.
