A Conversation with Dr. Al-Mansour

Will Barack Obama win the Presidential election? There seems to be a lot of anti Obama rhetoric coming across the airways.
I think Obama will probably squeak through due to a number of factors. He has lined up a very strong following among Hispanics and his organization committees are very effective, loyal and motivated. The amount of money that he has raised is historic. That money has to come from a broad spectrum and there are people who give that money who are probably going to vote. They are not going to give their money and say we don’t care whether he wins or loses. They are going to go out of their way to protect their investment and get some bragging rights.

Not ‘If’ – But ‘When’

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Fasting should be a part of every born-again believer’s life. It may not be required every day, such as in the case of prayer, but it still nonetheless should be a apart of your life.

Scriptures says, “But you, when you pray, go into your room and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place: and your father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” (Matthew 6:7)

The question about prayer should not be “if” we pray, but rather, “when” we pray. Jesus taught that prayer is essential to our spiritual survival.

Likewise, in the second passage Jesus starts off the say way with fasting by saying; “Moreover when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.” (Matthew 6:16)

Jesus was making the same point with fasting as He was making with prayer. Again, it’s not a question of “if” we fast (because He is telling us that we should fast), but “when” we fast.

I have heard many people say that fasting is not essential They say that fasting is only for church leaders. This could not be further from the truth. While fasting is indeed for spiritual leaders, it is also for every born-again Christian. Satan will attach your life no matter who you are.

So regardless of whether you are a bishop, pastor, minister, or simply a lay member, you need to fast. Fasting is the discipline of abstaining from food for biblical reasons. It is called afflicting one’s soul. It is often practiced to demonstrate the sincerity of our prayers.

There are several biblical reasons for fasting; Christians should fast when facing a national crisis (which we are in right now, banks closing, foreclosures’ etc), (2 Chr. 20:3) for personal individual needs, (Matt 17:21) during distress, (2 Sam 3:35 & Ps 35:13) when facing spiritual decisions (Matt.4:2). Many have found heavy burdens lifted after “fasting” Revival comes from fasting (Is. 58:6). Please remember to spend time alone with God when you fast.

Being a born-again Christian does not exempt you from the attacks of the devil against your life. In fact, it amplifies his attacks against your life. Before you became a Christian, you were on the devils’ side. But once your gave your life to Jesus Christ, you became an enemy against the devil, fasting is not only necessary but also essential.

Living your life without fasting can hinder your spiritual life and result in your being susceptible to the control and domination of Satan rather than by the Holy Spirit. So you see, it’s not a matter of “if” you pray & fast but “when” you do, do it in the way God expects from us in secret!

Trio of Pastors in The House

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

The concept of having multiple pastors in one church has long been a vision in the mind of Rev. Larry Brown, planted there through prayer about the conversations in which he often found himself.

Rev. Brown used to work regularly with fellow pastors and in talking with them, there would often be a regular theme: “they would say ‘We are struggling, pray for our church, pray that God will send down a blessing.’ ”

Pastor Brown would go back home and really ponder this thing, and say to the Lord, ‘You need to help with this because I am not understanding, I am not understanding why these are your churches and they are not flourishing. A church that is not flourishing is an oxymoron because if they are truly your churches then they should be flourishing.’
Pastor Brown just kept going to God about that and relating, among other things, to Jacob, who was just holding on because he needed an answer from God.

Finally Rev. Brown, then pastor of Lowry Community Christian Church, says that God poured into his spirit that it never was Him. it was us. “Wait what do you mean by that,” Brown asked, and the Lord said that He never meant for His body to be divided. ‘You guys, (men, churches, people) divided my body, you guys divided black and white, you are divided by denominations.’

God said “I never meant for my body to be divided because my body is whole. Then the blessings will be there!”

That is when Rev. Brown says his spirit was just stirred because what God put on his heart was to bring His body, God’s body, back together. The concept of blending black and white and denominations was clear.

What Brown needed to do was to start bringing God’s goal together so that God’s body could be one and the ministry blessed. God put the concept in Pastor Brown’s spirit just as Katrina hit.

Pastor Brown was instrumental in working with the Katrina aftermath and during that time he had the opportunity to work with Rev. Del Philips, pastor of Giliead Baptist Church.

One day he shared with Pastor Phillips what God had put on his heart. Brown and Phillips discussed the concept that had come to Rev. Brown in prayer. Rev. Phillips said it sounded like a good concept, though he really did not take the idea seriously.
But Rev. Brown proved that he was serious about the concept and continued to talk about the idea without nagging.

“Pastor Brown would bring it up often, and about one and half years later we found ourselves sitting in a meeting with a coalition,” Rev. Phillips said. After the meal was finished, Pastor Brown pushed the dishes back and said that it was time for them to come together.
Pastor Phillips said he knew that Rev. Brown was serious about the concept and that it was not a ploy or fad or phase, but rather a real passion in his heart. The two Pastors began to pray about it together, then they brought in some other leaders and pastors just pray over the concept.

Prior to really considering Rev. Brown’s concept, Pastor Phillips crossed paths with Pastor Kevin Hilton.

Rev. Kevin Hilton had come to Pastor Phillips and told him that God had put on his heart to shut down his church and move the entire congregation to another church.

The church that God had put on Pastor Hilton’s heart was Mount Gilead. Pastor Phillips put the matter to prayer. This was just out of the ordinary, that another church would simply walk into a place of worship as a whole.

A week later, pastor Hilton and Pastor Phillips got back together and after praying felt that there was some short of connection between the two of them.
Though the two men had not walked together in any fellowship, in January 2006, Rev. Hilton and his wife with their family and the entire church congregation came to join Pastor Phillips and Mount Gilead Baptist Church.

“This has been fashioned by the hand of God, where he brings up a unique personality and disposition to the ministry and we began to forge a relationship,” Rev. Phillips said.
Initially when Rev. Hilton’s church joined Mount Gilead the plan was that Pastor Hilton would learn and grow to seed a new ministry that would come out some time later and collectively the new ministry would be developed.”

Instead what transpired is that Rev. Brown and the concept of the united ministry came back into the picture. After speaking again with Rev. Brown, Rev. Phillips wondered if God’s intention was for Rev. Hilton remain with the church instead of seeding another ministry.

Perhaps God had set the seed for the concept of what he and Rev. Brown had discussed. The three Pastors took some sanctuary in the mountains and heard God really speak to them in regards to what was supposed to be done and the foundations of a joint pastorate began to truly take hold. During the retreat, the three defined what each one of them brought to the table naturally and the first thing that they all agreed upon is that there has to be one person in charge that has to make all the decisions.

“We realized that we all bring a measure of leadership to the table but we also have mutual respect for each other and did not have to worry about setting aside egos,” Rev. Phillips said. “It was easy to see what Pastor Brown naturally is cut out to do, what Pastor Hilton is naturally skilled to do so why would we argue with what a person is naturally slated to do.”

The division of responsibilities was easily established. There are certain pastoral responsibilities that Pastor Brown has as a shepherd, he has a great shepherd’s heart so he is responsible for care ministry. Pastor Brown has great vision and develops these ideas. Pastor Hilton has a great evangelistic outreach spirit and figures out how to get the gospel out there in ways that nobody else is thinking about.

“Somebody that might be a little more conservative would not be able to come up with the ideas that he does,” Rev. Phillips said, “But when presented at the table, the ideas make perfect sense for our ministry.”

Rev. Phillips has administrative strengths naturally and is able to get all the ducks in a row so that the church can serve.

“I feel that we three were able to look at what we bring to the table and how we can fit that into a team leadership format,” Rev. Phillips said, “The importance is not about who is in charge, it is about what every person brings to the table as a team.”

The entire church ministry prior to the merge was organized in a similar format. That is, the leadership style that God had given Pastor Phillips: involving the elders of the church in team decisions because he felt that the congregation as a whole required the input of more than one man.

Pastor Phillips feels that Pastor Hilton and Pastor Brown have been valuable assets to him personally as well as to the congregation.

Mount Gilead, now called The House, has established two new services: Wednesday night services are being led by Pastor Larry Brown and are implementing his vision for what is to be accomplished in that particular service. “We are doing a different vision on Saturday evening. We believe that there are different audiences that we are trying to reach in each service.”

Those services are being articulated by each one of us, now we will have the option, the ability, to be able to reverse roles and responsibilities when it comes to preaching and leading those services as it is needed and we move across the calendar year and there is a particular focus that we are trying to bring at a particular service.

“Wherever we need that gift of ministry style that each of us processes, the schedule will dictate that and we will have the liberty of being able to share and interact in any service,” Phillips said. “One of the things that we found valuable already is when we have three of present it just broadens the load of responsibility in that if one of us cannot cover a particular service the other Pastor can come in.

“We have designed the worship services around what we need to do to take care of the congregation and that is more important than the idea of the ego of one man.

“We are here to minister to the people and no man’s ego should hinder that. We should have joined long ago to be a more complete ministry for Christ.”

Pastor Larry Brown believes that the joining of the three to minister to the needs of people brings a variety of perspectives so that more people can relate to the delivery of God’s word.

“God’s word should not be limited to what one man brings to the table,” Rev. Brown said. God has drawn the three together to provide a wide menu of ministry to people who come form every walk of life, racially, economically, socially, and spiritually.

“God has given us the grace to attend to people by the joining of the multiple gifts that the three us of have as a team.”

The Law of Confession

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

Many people do not realize the power of words. Do you realize that the things you are speaking out of your mouth are setting the cornerstone of your life? Words deceive us. Words transmit. The words that you speak transmit faith or fear, so when we are talking about your spoken words, we are talking about things that are powerful.

You have heard people make statement like this; “stick or stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Nothing could be further from the truth, Words can kill you. If you don’t know what you are doing with words, they will destroy you.
Words are powerful when released out of your mouth because they carry spiritual forces. Jesus said it this way:

John 6:63; “…the words that I speak to you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
You see, there is spirit life in the words that I speak. That is why it is important for us to agree with God, and to say what God says. When we talk about “confession,” we are talking about “agreeing with God.”

That is why it is very important for us to know what God says. There is creative power that is released inside you when you speak God’s word out of your mouth.
Joshua 1:8 says; “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Do you want to make your way prosperous? Put the word of God in your mouth.

Matthew 12:33-37
“Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. 34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. 36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” NKJV

Message Translation:
33 “If you grow a healthy tree, you’ll pick healthy fruit. If you grow a diseased tree, you’ll pick worm-eaten fruit. The fruit tells you about the tree. 34-37 “You have minds like a snake pit! How do you suppose what you say is worth anything when you are so foul-minded? It’s your heart, not the dictionary, that gives meaning to your words. A good person produces good deeds and words season after season. An evil person is a blight on the orchard. Let me tell you something: Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning. Words are powerful; take them seriously. Words can be your salvation. Words can also be your damnation.”

Every time you speak, you reveal what is inside of you. You cannot have evil in you and speak good, also, you cannot have good thing in you and you speak evil. You are speaking what is in abundance inside of you. I can know what is inside you by the things that are coming out of your mouth.

I want you to notice verse 36; “But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the Day of Judgment;” the word “judgment” is not about judgment when Jesus comes. Now let us read it from the Message translation. : Every one of these careless words is going to come back to haunt you. There will be a time of Reckoning.

Matthew 13:10-11 say; “And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” 11 He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.”

Jesus is talking to His disciples here. He is talking to those who follow Him. Mysteries are hidden truths or things that are not comprehended naturally. They are these things that you cannot understand by just using the senses. Confession is one of those hidden truths that have been given to us to know. It is a mystery!

In the beginning, we are not made to say anything that we do not want to see come to pass. I other words, you were designed, like God, to say things and they are expected to come to pass. But after the fall, the enemy began to use our words to fight us.
We are talking about the “Law of Confession.” So what is a law? A law is a principle based on predictable circumstances of an act. It works the same way every time. For example the law of gravity; the law of floatation, etc. The law of confession works every time you use it. The reason we do not enjoy the benefit of this law is because many of us do not understand the principle behind this law.

You see, Jesus always confesses anything He wants to see come to pass. You too must confess what you want to see come to pass. No more crooked and perverse speech.
Proverbs 18:20-21 say; “A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.”

You can speak death or life into your life.

Hebrews 1:1-3 say: “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,”

This is very important to me because Jesus is the heir; he has the access to all things. Now it gets better when I remember that I am joint-heir with Jesus. We own them all together.

Jesus is upholding by the Word of His power. God spoke a higher law from which all other scientific law take their ground. Upholding ALL THINGS.

John 6:63 says; “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”

The Words I speak to you, they are Spirit, and they are life.”

Words are not just noise or sound; words are spirit. That is why when words are spoken to you they can go down into your spirit. You can speak death or you can speak life.
What you think are just noise are not just noise, but they are spirit and they are going to do something.

Psalm 141:3 says; “Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.”

In the Old Testament, David could pray this prayer because he was not redeemed then. But in the New Testament, God teaches you how you could keep watch over the door of your lips.

Psalm 39:1 says; “I said, “I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.”
The wicked are demons waiting on your mouth, they are waiting on your conversation, because death and life are in the power of your mouth. They want to distract you so you begin to speak wrong thing. They want you to begin to say what God didn’t say.
Proverbs 30:32 says; “If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, Or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth.”

You see the enemy is waiting for you to speak out that evil thing you have devised in your heart – He’s waiting to hear you say it. But God say; “Put your hand on your mouth.”
Ephesians 4:29 says; “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”

God wants you to speak words that will build up and not tear down.

Job got himself into trouble because of his mouth. Be careful not to get yourself into trouble because of your mouth.

Job 6: 23-24 say; “Or, ‘Deliver me from the enemy’s hand’? Or, ‘Redeem me from the hand of oppressors’? 24 “Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; Cause me to understand wherein I have erred.”

Job’s mouth got him into trouble. Positive thinking alone will not do the job, but you need to speak what God says; It is what you say out of your mouth that will save you.

Mark 5: 22-42 say; “And behold, one of the rulers of the synagogue came, Jairus by name. And when he saw Him, he fell at His feet 23 and begged Him earnestly, saying, “My little daughter lies at the point of death. Come and lay Your hands on her, that she may be healed, and she will live.” 24 So Jesus went with him, and a great multitude followed Him and thronged Him. 25 Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, 26 and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. 28 For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” 29 Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction. 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes?” 31 But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’” 32 And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. 33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. 34 And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.” 35 While He was still speaking, some came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house who said, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the Teacher any further?” 36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not be afraid; only believe.” 37 And He permitted no one to follow Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James. 38 Then He came to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and saw a tumult and those who wept and wailed loudly. 39 When He came in, He said to them, “Why make this commotion and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeping.” 40 And they ridiculed Him. But when He had put them all outside, He took the father and the mother of the child, and those who were with Him, and entered where the child was lying. 41 Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” 42 Immediately the girl arose and walked, for she was twelve years of age. And they were overcome with great amazement.

Jairus asked Jesus to come to his house, later after walking with Jesus for sometime, some people came and told him that his daughter was dead. When Jesus heard what they said, He quickly encouraged the man not to be afraid only believe.

When you’re going through something, the devil will send people your way to let you change your confession. But hold your peace and do not repeat what the enemy wants you to say.

Look at what Jesus did?

  1. He did not permit the doubter to follow Him.
  2. When He got to the house of Jairus, He maintained His confession despite the commotion. “The child is not dead, but sleeping. I don’t care what you may be thinking about this, but my vision is not dead, my marriage is not dead, my business is not dead. You cannot make me give up on my miracle, my miracle is alive!
  3. He refused to let the opinion of others about Him changed His confession. They ridiculed Him, yet He never backed down.
  4. He put the mockers and the doubters outside. “But when He had put them all outside” Tell your neighbor; “Put them all outside!” It is good that they leave you, if they do not leave you, they would have made you to give up on your dream, they would have made you to give up on your vision. Let them go!
  5. He spoke and confessed what He wanted to see into being. “Then He took the child by the hand, and said to her, “Talitha, cumi,” which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Begin to speak and confess to your vision, to your business, to your health, to that child of yours, to that relationship others say you should give up. Begin to confess your future now!

You need somebody around you that will call you to task. When you say what God does not say, the person will hold you accountable and remind you what you need to say. Don’t be mad at them, because you are on your way to the top.

Christianity is called the great confession. You’ve got to say what God says. Persecution may come because of your confession, but you will say, I know what God says, and I will not be moved by what the Doctor says, because I know that “By His stripes, I am healed…”

Give Him praise and glory in the church!

Are You Wrestling with God?

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

Do you remember the story of Jacob?

Jacob didn’t realize it, but he was setting himself up for a divine confrontation. (Genesis 32:24-28) “Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. (25) Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him. (26) And He said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I will not let You go unless You bless me!”(27)So He said to him, “What is your name” he said, “Jacob.” (28)And He said, “Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.”

When you wrestle with God, you’re headed for an awakening – because God’s got your leg! Jacob refused to let go until he got his blessing, but he realized who he really was in the process. If you belong to God, and you think that you can do anything on your own terms, think again. God’s got your leg! Hold on until you come to terms with yourself, and God will bless you. Now you have a “limp” that give you power with God and man.

If you are dealing with difficult situations and you’re not limping, you might be off schedule with God. You might be building a new church, but for reasons you can’t explain the money didn’t come in as you planned. Everything may have been going well at home, and them suddenly one of the children became ill. Remember Jacob. He was on his way home when his situation with Esau hit him right between the eyes. Then after doing everything in his own strength to avoid a confrontation with Esau, Jacob found himself alone with God…and that’s where he saw God’s face. That’s where God had ordained for Jacob to step into his destiny.

When I think of what Genesis said; …. “And He blessed him there, where he started limping.” That was the place where God changed Jacob’s name to Israel. Just a thought … don’t complain about your “there” your “there is a place of blessing the place where He prepares you to go to your next level. When your “there” He will step you into your next level of destiny.

The beauty of our limp is God will let you take the first step in your own strength, and then you’ll need Him to take the next step. When you have no strength and have to lean on God or fall flat on your face, you have a limp. Too many believers are limping around looking to others for help instead of God, and it draws attention to the fact that they need to get back in His presence. If God has given you a “limp,” He has brought you to the place where you are able to go where He wants you to go. The anointing breaks the yoke of the enemy as you follow Him. You can go back into difficult situations and let God use you to turn them around for His glory!
