He and his wife, Clorinda are the parents of two chil- dren, four grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren, creating five living generations. They are members of Presentation of Our Lady Catholic Church, where Salomon served as an Usher and drove to church until he was 99. Ms. Roberta Thomas was born in 1918 in Cancienne, Louisiana, and is the eldest child of 3 brothers and one sister. In 1995, she moved to Colorado to be closer to her baby sis- ter, Bessie Jones. Ms. Roberta has worked at the Del Mar Senior Center for the past seventeen years, and fel- lowships at her home church, True Light Baptist Church in Denver where she holds the honorable distinction as the oldest member. On 4/22/18, a Colorado Commissioner with Governor Hickenlooper’s Office made an official trip to True Light Baptist Church in order to make a special presentation to Ms. Roberta based on her new status as Centenarian. Ms. Roberta’s favorite foods include chicken wings, collard and mustard greens, corn- bread, peach cobbler and sweet potato pie. Sisters Enterprise gifted both Mr. Trujillo and Ms. Thomas with their distinguished Sisters Centenarian Proclamation, a gold medallion and a special gift made just for them. To date, Sisters Enterprise has saluted a total of nine (9) centenar- ians (including Alma Brown; George W. Gray, Jr.; Rose DeGroat; Blossom Lorraine Gholston; Ann B. Cvaniga; Ethel Smith-Breazell; James Downing; Roberta Thomas; and Salomon Trujillo) who have successfully helped us to learn & respect our history while saluting all of the other amaz- ing seniors who live remarkable lives in our community as upstanding role models. As wonderful role models, our community has benefited from centenarians & others by learning how to unselfishly perform random acts of kindness. While entertaining an audience of approximately RAOK supporters, Mistresses of Ceremony (Toastmasters Michelle Bires & GiGi deGala) wel- comed KEYNOTE SPEAKER, Betty Funderburke (co-founder of Sisters Enterprise and Absolutely Articulate Toastmasters International) who spoke on their 2018 theme: “Let’s Give Them Something To Talk About.” The following 10 exceptional 2018 RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS (RAOK) COMMUNITY AWARD recipi- ents were honored: Ron ALLEN, Gladys BROWN JONES TURNBOUGH, Autumn & Deborah CHUNG, Sebian HOLIDAY, Michelle MRAS, Jesse SCOTT, James SENECA, STRUGGLE Of Love Foundation, Alan SWARTZ, and Sabrina WRIGHT-HOBART. To date, Sisters Enterprise has recognized over 160 phenomenal Coloradans for their kind and unself- ish acts of kindness. The Sisters Program also includ- ed a mini musical (featuring Shirel Anderson, solo vocalist) and a fashion show with a taste of Hollywood that unveiled locally-made, unique & ele- gant, one-of-a-kind garments (under the direction of Bonnie Elder, Fashion Show Director and CJay Smith, Fashion Show Moderator) featuring Miss AhJaelle Butler - 2018 Colorado Beautillion Cotillion Queen and the fol- lowing models: Gil ANTERO, Kennisha AYERS, Dianna BRAVO, Toya DAVIS, Marian FISHER, Jennifer HILL, Tom HOBBS, Brenda LOCKHART, Miss Hope Lockhart, Xavier RICHMOND, Sean STOKES, and May TRAN. Thanks to fashions by Carol Mier Fashions, Filetta’s Couture Boutique, and Mary Kay by Lindsey Armstrong, the fash- ion show was a raving success! Determined to promote random acts of kindness wherever they go, co- founders, biological sisters, Betty and Elinora encouraged others to become a RAKtivist (“Random Acts of Kindness Activist”) by inspiring hope, generos- ity and goodwill while making strides to “pay it forward.” Photographers Carl Thornton and Ron Buckner cap- tured historic photos while Sound Technician, “Duane A. Kuta” (D & T Sound Production) kept the Sisters Program moving with upbeat music, sounds and DJ-ing. The program ended with a scrumptious lunch (including hot chocolate chip cookies by Doubletree by Hilton, cupcakes by Cakes by Karen, watermelons by Nick’s Garden Center, bar-b-que by Harold Brown, cold water & beverages by Deep Rock Water, sweet potato pie and more) with 100+ door prizes given away to 150+ guests. Dr. Claudette Sweet opened the program up with prayer and later blessed the luncheon food. Based on Sister’s mission to conquer the world one random act of kindness at a time, their community- strengthening program continues to be a popular teaching tool for children, adults and the community-at-large by demonstrating why positive values of love and hospitality are important. Sisters Enterprise ended this year’s program by sharing their soon-to-be- released random acts of kindness his- toric book, (“THESE ARE THEY”) that will be available to the general public in September, 2018; guests were encour- aged to sign up for a pre-paid book via https://squareup.com/store/sisters- enterprises; Book-Signing Party will take place on Sat., Sept. 29th (12:00 noon) at SEB’S REC CENTER, 1710 S. Buckley Road, Unit 9 in Aurora, CO 80017. Toastmasters GiGi deGala and Michelle Bires congratulated the 2018 RAK-tivists, and expressed apprecia- tion to devoted supporters and guests who shared this 14th year gala with Sisters Enterprise friends & board members. They also congratulated Sisters Enterprise for special recog- nition received on 3/21/18 at the State Capitol by Gov. Hickenlooper & Denver Mayor Hancock when this nonprofit received a “Serving Our Seniors” Award and accolades from 350 Coloradans.
