I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we, as a people, will get to the Promised Land!” These faithful words of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., fifty years to the day were played as Rev. Dr. Bernice King prepare to that the stage and stand in the exact place that her father had stood those many years ago. As it was raining on Wednesday, April 3rd, 1968; it was raining fifty years later on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018. The lights were lowered, and a solemn tone overtook the 3700 people in attendance at the Mason Temple and another 2200 folks at the overflow location as the public address sys- tem played the words of Dr. King’s last public dis- course. As Dr. Bernice King was greeted with a spotlight upon her face and the crowed raised with a standing ovation to greet her. She stood there for a few minutes and said, “This is not in the script, but the Holy Spirit is directing me to call my brother Marty to join me on stage. With the two of them joining together the youngest of the King children spoke of their family dynamics as she recounted how their father was assassinated, then their uncle Alfred Daniel Williams “A. D.” King's mysteri- ous deaths in a swimming pool a year later (he knew too much about how Dr. King was killed) and then she talked about how their grandmother Alberta King who was shot and killed on Sunday, June 30, 1974, in church on while playing the organ. She went on to say that like all people they grieve, however, their grief is magnified by the public figures that these fam- ily members were. She stated how their brother Dexter has taken it espe- cially hard and how he had the most difficulty dealing with the loss of and the way they were taken from the family. Dr. King’s youngest daughter, the Rev.
