I Corinthians 924 When you go for an appointment with your medi- cal care provider at one time or another you might be told that it is a good idea to exercise even if your provider does not follow their own advice You might be surprised at how important exercise is to your quality of life and your longevity. Too often we consider exercise as an option and we may blow off the notion of exercise. We may think to ourselves that exercise especially when done on a regular basis is something we just dont have time for. If we are feeling well we may not feel the need. However over the years we have amassed information and evidence that exercise is clearly not something we should consider as optional and we now know that a sedentary lifestyle can be deadly. A life without any exercise can lead to premature death decreased quality of life frailty and disability. From childhood to old age whatever we think that may be we all need it Here is a list of ailments associated more so with a sedentary lifestyle Cardiovascular disease-stroke and heart attack Type 2 diabetes-with all of its many potential com- plication from blindness to kidney failure Obesity-which is fraught with many health risks and complications-especially with aging Loss of muscle strength-which especially in older people-cause frailty and difficulty just moving around ones home climbing stairs driving and shopping Certain cancers may be seen more often such as colon and breast cancer High blood pressure with its complications of stroke heart attack and kidney failure among others Elevated Cholesterol levels which can be associated with blood vessel disease heart attack and stroke Increased risk of dementia such as Alzheimers disease May be associated with depression and anxiety Has the same negative impact as smoking tobacco Truly sitting can be deadly and the tragedy is that many millions of people worldwide suffer needlessly. Some may remember when our parents told us to go outside and play Well we all need to do that Instead today even our children are as sedentary as us adults. Let me just make some suggestions as to how we can be more active. Talk to your doctor also about exercise and your plan to get started. Dont sit all day on the job. Perhaps you have a job sitting in a cubicle and at a desk. Just get up every 30-60 minutes and just for a few minutes walk up and down a long hallway or climb a flight or 2 of stairs in your facility. In fact walk up the stairs to work and avoid the elevator or escalator. Walk outside for exercise. Buy yourself a step counter pedometer and gradually build up to the advised 10000 steps daily and you can still benefit from even less numbers of steps. You can aim for 30 minutes of walking at least 5 times weekly. It is okay to do more than that. Join a gym. They are all over the place. You might think everyone there will be thin or very muscular however you will see people of all shapes and sizes. You can participate in group exercise classes. Try a yoga class or try other classes such as a bicycle or spinning class. Many gyms even have special programs for senior citi- zens called Silver Sneakers at no cost but of great benefit. Lift weights. Believe me we all can benefit from this and we may benefit even more so when we are older. We can lift weights in a gm and at home. You can buy just a simple set of dumbbells to do arm curls or shoulder presses overhead. You can also buy elastic fitness bands to provide muscle resistance and strengthening. There are personal trainers at gyms that can show you how to do weight training. There are also numerous books and magazines to give you instructions. Swim for exercise and this is considered one of the best exercises you can do. Ride on a bike path. The Denver Metro area and other cities have places where you can ride a bike and there is no traffic. A bike is a good investment. Buy exercise videos you can use at home. There is a multitude of various exercise programs that you do privately at home and of great benefit. So walk run bike lift swim and move so you can serve God and live longer and better. So run that ye may obtain. Why Should We Exercise Dr. Conner By Byron E. Conner M.D. HEALTH Sitting can be deadly and the tragedy is that many millions of people worldwide suffer needlessly. My people shall never be put to shame. 28 And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy Your old men shall dream dreams Your young men shall see visions. 29 And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. Joel 225-29 Before we can be satisfied God first wants to make sure that we recover all that the enemy has stolen from us. Gods plan is to restore every- thing that has been stolen from man even from Adam. What God envisioned for man is a perfect man who lives and reigns like God on the earth. In fact God created Adam and filled him with all per- fection. Adam was perfect in wisdom he was perfect in his health he was perfect in beauty. Nothing in him was not perfect he was so perfect in intelligence that he named all the animals and birds without repeating one name twice. He was the perfection of Gods creation. Adams standing with God created a threat to the enemy that the devil came in the form of a serpent and caused Adam and Eve to fall from their thriving position to a position of survival. Since the fall man has been trying to survive instead of the original intent of God which is that man should thrive. God had no choice but to send man from His presence while at the same time He put in place another plan to bring man back to His original plan. It is called the plan of redemption. The plan of redemption is Gods plan to restore man to his original state and recover all that the enemy has stolen from him. God is not satisfied to see His created image to be in any position less than perfect. Long before the fullness of the plan of redemp- tion God spoke through Prophet Joel in verse 25 of chapter 2 that I will restore I am here to tell you today that God will restore to you what the locust has eaten in your life. If it is your finances God will restore if it is your health God will restore your name your reputation your dignity marriage fam- ily business career vision and dream. God said that He will do this by making sure that the Help you need from heaven gets to you. The Holy Spirit is the help that we need to thrive again. Yes I need you and you need me but I need the presence of the Holy Spirit more than you and so do you Say it loud Holy Spirit I need you now The truth is that I am a better person to relate with when the Holy Spirit is active in my life. You are the best man or lady to work with whenever the Holy Spirit is active in your life. That is why we need Him in our lives more than ever before. You see He can be in your life and you can still be miserable because unless He is active you cannot enjoy His benefits. He was present on the earth yet the earth was without form and void Genesis 12. All He could do was to brood over the face of the waters until the Word came and set Him into action. It is the power of the word that will set the Holy Spirit into action in your life. Today the Holy Spirit will go into action on your behalf in the name of Jesus Genesis 11-4 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form and void and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.3 Then God said Let there be light and there was light. 4 And God saw the light that it was good and God divided the light from the darkness. I want you to notice that it was God who spoke into the chaos and the darkness to bring forth the light. It was God who said Let there be light That same God is going to speak into your darkness to bring about light into your life in the name of Jesus Whatever the darkness you have been expe- riencing the voice of God will ring out loud to bring about restoration you have been trusting God for in the name of Jesus Christ Joel 225 God said I will restore He is deter- mined to restore to you the years that the locust has eaten. Some people may be thinking that they are ahead of you now but they dont know that God is determined to see that you pursue and overtake and recover all that the enemy has taken from you. He said I will restore Let me tell you your pro- motion will be rapid in the New Year that people will be marveled at your promotion Where you are now is not where you are supposed to be but God said He is prepared to place you where you are supposed to be. For all your trouble God will honor you with speed and grace in the name of Jesus God honored Joshua and made sure that the Sun did not go down until the business was completed you too will experience a stay of the sun in place to make sure you never fight in darkness you will not walk in darkness as you complete this important part of your destiny. Fear not This light will not go down I have a job to do I have business to take care of it wont go dark now for I am on Gods assign- ment Tell your neighbor Fear not this light will not go down until you have completed your assign- ment Joshua 1012-15 12 On the day the LORD gave the Amorites over to Israel Joshua said to the LORD in the presence of Israel O sun stand still over Gibeon O moon over the Valley of Aijalon. 13 So the sun stood still and the moon stopped till the nation avenged itself on its enemies as it is writ- ten in the Book of Jashar. The sun stopped in the middle of the sky and delayed going down about a full day. 14 There has never been a day like it before or since a day when the LORD listened to a man. Surely the LORD was fighting for Israel 15 Then Joshua returned with all Israel to the camp at Gilgal. Even when there was no light and the earth was in darkness God spoke and said Let there be light That word light in Hebrews means break of day shine bring forth glory happiness the dawn of a new day etc. The Bible said that God separated the light from darkness Genesis 14 said 4 And God saw the light that it was good and God divided the light from the darkness. In other words God separated the light from the darkness. I am here to say that there is going to be a separation of darkness from your life. All those dark issues of life that have been attaching themselves to you are going to be separated from your life because it is time for Divine Satisfaction Sickness is of the darkness fam- ine is of the darkness loneliness is of the darkness Cancer diabetes ulcer addictions rejection high blood pressure stroke poverty depression and other forms of dark issues are going to be separated from your life this year in the name of Jesus Just as David said in 2 Samuel 2229-30 For You are my lamp O LORD The LORD shall enlighten my darkness. 30 For by You I can run against a troop By my God I can leap over a wall. NKJV God said Let there be light It means let there be a break of day let My glory shine forth let joy be everywhere Bring beauty out of my people and all around them. The Holy Spirit acted upon the Word of God and brought joy beauty and the dawn of a new day onto the earth. So it will be for you in the name of Jesus God said through Prophet Joel that the time of lack and drought is over. Joel 226 says You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied And praise the name of the LORD your God Who has dealt wondrously with you And My people shall never be put to shame. In other words you shall be Totally Satisfied. The covenant of prosperity that God entered with Abraham Isaac and Jacob will work for you You shall eat and be satisfied and then you shall praise the name of the Lord your God who has dealt won- drously with you. When you eat and satisfied you will remember to give glory to God for you will not say it is your own power that gave you the wealth that you are enjoy- ing. Remember Deuteronomy 817-18 17 then you say in your heart My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. 18 And you shall remember the LORD your God for it is He who gives you power to get wealth that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers as it is this day. Therefore you must fully commit yourself and your ways to the Lord. God has a great plan for all of us this year. Joel 228 says And it shall come to pass after- ward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy Your old men shall dream dreams Your young men shall see By Rev. Continued on Page 23 6 BOCNEWS.comMAY 2016 A Discussion On RacismAll over America talk about racism continues while the need for work on the self-preservation of black communities has never been greater. And Denver is no different. Denver Seminary held a rally on April 14 called Confronting Our Ongoing Racist Legacy A Challenge in Christian Faith. After just two weeks of being president of Denver Seminary back in 2009 Mark Young admitted the tension existed between the seminary and black community. Young addressed this in his speech during the rally and how unfortunate it was that some tension still remained between the seminary and black com- munity. He went on to address those past tragedies of 2014 and 2015 that spiraled out of control and loss of young black lives at the hands of white police officers. Not to mention the massacre at Emmanuel AME Church in Charleston SC where a white man mur- dered the people of God simply because they were black. In his introduction speech during the rally event Young outlined several points regarding societys racial tendencies as well as his own personal igno- rance about racism. Seeing racism as more of a multidimensional social reality than an individual prejudice has helped alleviate my tendency to see it as someone elses problem and thus ignore it. He continued Because Whites have more power in all of the significant social institutions in the U.S. society we benefit from a racialized society and fail to recognize that fact. Many of us in the white communities are uncom- fortable talking about race and racism because it challenges our detachment from racial issues. Most of Whites are unwilling to admit that we have chosen to live segregated lives in the places we reside work play worship and send our kids to school. We seldom if ever would admit that the choice to live segregated lives may come from deeply buried desires to live apart from blacks. And lastly he pointed out Because we do not see ourselves as part of the problem of racism and we do not recognize how pervasive and destructive its ongoing presence is to our society we do not readily engage in actions that prophetically rebuke racial inequality and racist behavior. President Young went on to reflect about racism and led a heartfelt prayer which included asking Have mercy on me Lord Forgive me Lord and Empower me Lord. Over the years Young never thought of himself as a racist but had to come to a better understanding of racism going on in the country and his participa- tion in it. Trayvon Martins murder was a significant factor in my life. It seemed profoundly unjust and moti- vated by race. Michael Brown and others changed the way I began thinking on whats happening in our country. My white friends had their narrative on it and my African American friends had a different nar- rative said Young who grew up in Appalachia West Virginia where there were no black people. My whole life I thought of racism as an individual thing. I am ashamed I spent my entire adult life igno- rant of the realities of history and the present. He also shared a story with the Body of Christ News on how his close African American friends allowed their son to come stay with him temporar- ily. The young man was waiting to find housing on campus while attending Denver Seminary. Young lives in the Lakewood area outside Denver. He said the young man decided to take a walk down the street and the next thing he knew a police cruiser pulled up and stopped him. The young man was sim- ply walking down the street talking on his cell phone. He said he was shocked and appalled. Denver Seminary we realize hasnt been all we should be in supporting the African American churches speaking out against racism and injustice. But what I want to say now to the community is I know longer will be silent or indifferent. I want us as a community to be engaged and compassionate Dr. Crawford Loritts from Atlanta Ga was the guest speaker. Loritts said the solution to racism is fairly easy. Its not that we dont know what to do but having the will to do it. The solution is getting back to why we were created and our personal relationship with Christ. God created the church to be the visible model as an alternative to the chaos and isolation that is within our culture and society. Also this month at a recent NAACP meeting many gathered to share their views on race relations and working together. Aurora Police Chief Nick Metz has been trying to build his police department on being more commu- nity focused and driven. When you are dealing with any community that has had a long history of issues between them and police whether its in our own city or across the country people bring their history and knowledge with them he said. Here in Aurora we are fortu- nate to have a lot of folks within the black commu- nity who want to work with us and proactively come to us. People recognize all the tensions going on across the country at the same time they recognize they need the police department and want to live in a safe environment. But they also want police officers to know where they are coming from. While Aurora has a majority minority diverse pop- ulation the Aurora Police Department is made up of 85 percent white males. Metz is actively working on recruiting more officers of color and plans to hire 80 new officers within the next year. Those interest can go to Aurorapolicejobs. com website for more information on applying. Metz said his department is taking a more nontra- ditional approach on reaching out to the community. We are getting our officers out of their cars and visiting folks in their businesses schools and churches. Our officers have been doing some phe- nomenal stuff in the community in helping people and going that extra mile. The officers are willing to show themselves more personably to the commu- nity and that they are not just cops but husbands wives fathers mothers. Minister Gerald Muhammad with the Nation of Islam shared his own view of what is going on in the country and racism that continues to exist. Like the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan said the race problem has never went away. They just tried to put a bandage on it. As the black man is rising the black man is want- ing more of what this country is supposedly offering others who come to this country for freedom jus- tice and equality. They want a piece of the American pie but the black man cant even get a piece. Muhammad went on to say that President Obama was selected and not elected. He feels the countrys first African American president has done nothing for black people. He also addressed the Black Lives Matter Movement and how more young people are starting to push the issue injustices and unfair treatment by police com- ing into their communities. Back in the day it was the KKK now they are the men in blue uniforms all over America. They roll through our communities like an overseer on a plan- tation Muhammad said. However Muhammad said there is some good being done by white Christian leaders like Dennis Leonard who came back to Denver and rebuilt his church and ministry that has a large black following. He took his money and reinvested back into the community by buying property to have temporary low income housing to house our people. Now he is back in the city. He is doing something with the word that he claims he was called to deliver and trying to feed the sheep. Because we do not see ourselves as part of the problem of racism and we do not recognize how pervasive and destructive its ongoing presence is to our society we do not readily engage in actions that prophetically rebuke racial inequality and racist behavior. CURRENT AFFAIRS 7MAY 2016BODY OF CHRIST NEWS Child Abuse Prevention Month President Ronald Reagan declared April to be Child Abuse Prevention Month with a presidential proclamation in 1983. Not only can the palate be awakened by some good ole southern cooking but the soul is fed with some inspirational music. Everyone is talking about the HeAvenly Soul Caf in the former Cinema Grill building off Almeda and Potomac in Aurora. The owner Brian Robinson ful- filled a vision in opening a restaurant especially after much prayer. He got the idea last August after his beloved wife passed away from a brain aneurism. It would have been our second wedding anniver- sary said Robinson. I took a drive and thought about the restaurant. I had been in the restaurant business for 26 years down in Atlanta. I wanted to open a restaurant with her and was kind of at odds about doing it without her. I didnt know what to call it or what direction to go. After driving Robinson went to his mothers house and talked about the concept of the restaurant with his family a caf with live gospel music. His sister mentioned that using the old Cinema Grill building would be a great place for a restaurant not to mention showcasing musical gospel talent. Through much prayer and fasting he continued to ask God what he should do. He admitted he was still angry inside about losing his wife and that she wouldnt be there with him to open the restaurant. At her funeral service people had so many good things to say about her. She touched so many lives. So I wanted to do something significant. That same year in June I had surgery and thought I was going to pass away. So I wanted to have some kind of pro- visions for my children that would help take care of them for the rest of their lives. And so the restaurant became a reality with a capi- tal A in heavenly and a halo over it to represent his wife. The mission statement Feed the mind body and spirit - edifying God. It is a family owned business with no financial investors says Robinson as he and his children are the sole proprietors of the business daugh- ters Debra Robinson Danielle Johnson and sons Marcus Johnson and James Johnson. The menu is based on true southern cuisine from collard greens to catfish. Even as Robinson calls the world famous smoked fried wings are at the top of the popular dishes. Then there is Ruthell Peach cobbler a 101-year old recipe handed down by Robisons grandmother. On the entertainment side live performances take place from 630 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Young people enjoy the Christian hip hop nights on Fridays as well and get a chance to praise God through rap Robinson said. On Sundays a gospel singer or group performs that is sponsored by the churches. On Faith Entertainment hosts the Friday music night. Robinson is excited about the upcoming choir competition to take place at HeAvenly Soul Caf where the winning choir will receive 500.00 Food is served Tuesday through Sunday from 1030 a.m. to 9 p.m. Even when artists are not performing Christian music is playing in the back- ground all day to make sure people get that well bal- anced meal God wants for them. COMMUNITY 9MAY 2016BODY OF CHRIST NEWS Just Think About It The school year is quickly coming to an end. I believe each of you start to evaluate as I must your children and what was gained this year. Did you have a specific goal or expectation Did they meet the intended goal Did you witness any changes What was good what was not so good and finally what occurred that was or was not expected. Lets face it we all may not want to play the role of an assessor or diagnostician of our childs progress but it is essential in making sure their needs are not only diagnosed but met. This is certainly our intended objective for all students here at Excel. Parents until the last day of school we solicit your support and goodwill. While some of our paths may have come to a crossroad we as you intend must work until June 3 2016 and each of you should support until that final day as well. I pray we can depend on each of you to make sure that every childs experience ends on a positive and supportive note. Remember we realistically cannot accomplish this without each of you. We have been hearing some disturb- ing information in regards to our 2016- 17 School Term. It has been rumored that this is Excels last year and that we will not open next year. We will be the first to say things are extremely difficult. Every aspect of operation has become increasingly formidable. But to the many parents who have a legitimate concern about the health of Excel I understand your quandary. It is not easy to keep moving forward when your organization is constantly being dismantled and dismembered by the individuals we have committed ourselves to serve. It creates further difficulty when people make decisions and tell others and fail to inform the school. I am eternally grateful to those of you who have sacrificed supported and encouraged Excel and your strong commitment through thick and thin. Those of you who genuinely believe that it takes a village and when you find one you make sure by your sup- port that it remains for those who will come now and in the future. Believe me you have made a difference. We remain positive because this service is to the God who called us. If you are wondering if you have any hesitancy of relinquishing your God given spot here and it is His spot due to His provision let me assure you by Gods Grace Excel will hit the ground running as we open 2016-17 School term. No one individual family or influence can erase or eradicate Gods ministry. We will be here and we need you too. Just remember its all about our children. It will not be an easy undertaking over the 3 decades it has never been. We have much to do but we pray daily for Gods Hands Heart Wisdom Mind and Spirit that He will continue to allow His Divine Providence to permeate our halls our classrooms and send those who believe and recognize the HAND and purpose of God knowing only the power of God has kept Excel. Pastor Bowman saw many years ahead where we were headed as a nation. He also knew that this destructive path was being designed for our children before the establish- ment sounded the alarm. He was also keenly aware that in many ways we contributed to this plan and with that urgency established a unique learning institution not just to forewarn but to forearm. This discernment was God given and none today can dispute the truth that it exposed. This is why we believe today the need is greater there- fore God will still allow us to continue. Many have made it a priority to emu- late or represent they have the answer to our unique dilemma but it takes more than a mile in our shoes to make the shoes fit. I look forward to seeing all of you the village as we support all of the remaining programs lets end with unification. Col 315 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts to the which also ye are called in one body and be ye thankful. COMMUNITY By Mrs. V.L. Wilson Admin - Excel V.L. Matthew 516 Superintendent Lamar Kennedy Sr. was born in Monroe Louisiana on July 14 1938 the second child born to Hattie Lee Johnson Kennedy and Buster Kennedy. He often reminisced about growing up in the country hunting and fishing and he joked with the youth about the fact that this generation never knew nothing about getting their own food cleaning and cooking it. Superintendent Kennedy was fondly known as Tight by his siblings and his cousin Mother Viola Pryor who was his best friend. Pastor Kennedy accepted Jesus Christ as a young man and was lovingly teased by fam- ily about being saved. He was filled with the Holy Spirit at 14 years old and his family often told him Boy you aint got nothing. Immediately his textbook response was well I thank God for nothing In 1950 the Kennedy family relocated to Denver Colorado. Pastor Kennedy continued his education in the Denver Public School system and graduated from Manual High School in 1955. After graduation Pastor Kennedy moved to Portland Oregon upon the urging of his best friend Jerry. He attended college for a short time majoring in accounting. Amassing years of Christian service under the tutelage of Superintendent H. F. Kelley Pastor Kennedy was called to preach the gospel and was licensed in 1962 by the late Bishop J.C. Foster in Portland Oregon. He received his Elders ordination in 1965 from the late Bishop S.M. Crouch in Los Angles California. He attended Emanuel Bible College also located in Los Angles California. Elder Kennedy became a National Evangelist for the Church of God In Christ and has preached Jesus Saves all over the United States. Elder Kennedy briefly pastored in California and subse- quently returned to Denver. He had vowed never to return to Colorado because of the snow and cold but God had navigated a different plan for him. After residing in Denver for nearly a year Elder Kennedy was installed as the Pastor of Unity Church of God in Christ on August 24 1975. Soon thereafter he married the women of his dreams Missionary Odie Kennedy on November 21 1975. Pastor Kennedy has never met a stranger. He looked beyond the per- son and saw a soul in need of a Savior. He has welcome Gods prodi- gals with open arms and has never condemned anyone for their trans- gressions reminding us that we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God. Superintendent Kennedys God-given mission was ministering to the whole man in spirit mind and body thus Unity Church of God In Christ is known as a church who seeks to meet the needs of people in all groups embracing Pastor Kennedys motto to reaching the lost at any cost Pastor Kennedy was elevated to office of Superintendent of the Central District in 2006 and installed by Bishop Jerry Macklin General Board of Bishops International COGIC. As a teenager he was brought out of Judah into Babylon. Daniel was part of the first Jewish deportation. The king had all these young men in training and the best of them the smartest strongest and most talented would be chosen as the next leaders. Im sure you all know Daniel was Davids second son by Abigail the Carmelitess. These young men had a certain diet and certain programs they had to fol- low. But Daniel had made a vow to God to always honor Him. The Babylonians worshiped idols. Although he respect- ed the king Daniel didnt worship idols he continue to pray. You know the rest of the story it became law it was illegal to pray he continue and was thrown into the lions den. Thats another story. Daniel was respectful but he wouldnt eat the kings fancy foods. He didnt just go along with what everyone else was doing. He made the more excellent choice. Daniel 63 says Daniel so dis- tinguished himself by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to put him over the whole kingdom. Notice it doesnt say God distinguished him and he got promoted. It says Daniel distinguished himself. The Message translation says Daniel completely outclassed the others. Thats what happens when number one you honor God and number two you have an excellent spirit. You dont compromise. You dont just go with the flow and do what everyone else is doing. Even if everyone else is late everyone else cuts corners everyone else is gossiping and everyone else is undisciplined. We should do as Daniel did and go the extra mile. Always making the choice to be excellent. If your job is the receptionist come in early and be the last to leave do over and above what your called to do. Be a team player offer to help others on a dead- line. Thats when we are operating in excellence you will stand out in the crowd in good way. The scripture goes on to say Daniel was far wiser than the other young men. Daniel 117 states that God gave Daniel knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds when we have an excellent spirit God will give you unprecedented favor creativity and ideas so that like Daniel you will stand out in the crowd. My question is Are you distinguishing yourself and not waiting for God to do it Are you going the extra mile Are you doing more than you have to Are you improving your skills Examine your life. We all have areas in which we can strive for excellence whether its how we treat people how we present ourselves or how we develop our skills. Dont let something small keep you from the big things God wants to do. Believers we are called to be a cut above. You have excel- lence on the inside. Its who you are. Now do your part and be disciplined to bring out your excellence. If you have this spirit of excellence. God will breathe in your direction and cause you to stand out. Youll look up and be more creative more skilled more talented and wiser with more ideas. I believe and declare that like Daniel you will outperform and outshine others around you. God will promote you and set you in a place of honor. God lives in you. He made you as a person of excellence. Whether you have much or a little whether its old or new take pride in what God has given you. Have an excellent spirit. Stand out in the crowd. Let the glow of the Lord shine upon you. SERMON The Bonus RoundFor Christ also suffered once for sins the righteous for the unrighteous that he might bring us to God being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit 1 Peter 318 As a child and even times as an adult some of us have played a game called pinball. Points are scored by a player maneuvering one or more steel balls on a playing field within a glass covered cabinet. The important thing to note about pinball is that you get only three balls before the game is over. If you are lucky you may score enough points throughout the game to achieve a special bonus ball. During the game most people play the first ball with moderate effort knowing that they have two more chances. Once the first two balls have been lost and the final ball is in play the seriousness becomes real and an intense level of concentration begins. Christ came to earth as a man to die and to redeem man through His resurrection. Christ paid the ulti- mate price for man to have a bonus round not only another chance at life but an abundant and eternal life. This culture has adopted what I term the someday I should syn- drome. Living daily with the prom- ise of tomorrow next week next month and next year when in fact it certainly is not guaranteed. Why do we live our lives as if we are on the first ball when in fact we are on not only on the final ball but living our bonus ball that we did not earn it is a gift from our Lord and Savior. Just as the Son of Mandid not come to be served but to serveand to give his life as a ransomrfor many.Matthew 2018 I recall a of a story of a man in a Hospital at Fort Rucker Alabama who was in the operating room undergoing a routine knee surgery when his heart reacted to the anesthesia and eventually coded dur- ing the operation. After medication and monitoring the mans heart returned to a normal sinus rhythm. Once conscious the man declared that everything seemed brighter to him colors appeared more vivid music and sounds were richer his entire sensory heightened. The man declared from that day for- ward to live daily as if that day was his last. I know this man has done just that because I am that man. I challenge the readers of this article to adopt a new life princi- ple called NOWNew Opportunity Working. Live in the NOW every day. Stop putting off your dreams and aspirations. Get into action today. You want to start a busi- ness name it today. You want love in your life then begin by smiling at people. Whatever the should is make it a must today. Maybe you had plans that didnt work out or someone was rude to you at the store. Maybe you were doing something that should have taken one hour and it ended up taking three. Life is full of inconvenienc- es but even though we cant always control our circum- stances we can control our reactions to those circum- stances Somebody said Life is 10 what happens to you and 90 how you respond We should always go out each day with a positive attitude full of hope and expecting Gods favor.
