SERVING THE COLORADO BODY OF CHRIST

What Season Are You In?

By Evang. Dr. P.M. Wynn-Grove

There’s no doubt about it. We will go through different seasons in our lifetime. It’s part of living a Christian life. Nobody every said that once you gave your life to Christ, it would be easy, and you wouldn’t have anymore problems. In fact, it becomes more of a challenge everyday of your life. Satan will try to ride your back as much as possible because he wants you to give up and not believe as a Christian should. But remember, Satan can only ride your back if you bend over and let him ride!

We are all charged to “Win Souls for Christ” and that means in season and out of season. 2 Timothy 3:2 verse reads; “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.” Unfortunately, in this day and time more preachers, teachers, and evangelist want to appeal to “itching ears” (2 Timothy 4:3) “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.

We are usually going through a storm, coming out of a storm or getting ready to go into a storm. We must be ready each morning as we walk out to have our “full armor of God” on for whatever may come our way each day.

We never know when we might run into someone that has been a selected “assignment from God” for the day. Or a spiritual test to reach out and help someone.

You know, many of us desire the Lord’s presence and carefully express our petition and need for comfort. But, are we ready, expectantly waiting and listening for our Lord’s response? Do we take time to be quiet in the Lord’s presence, to hear His voice speak to us? If the Lord chooses to respond through a friend, stranger or event, do we, or would we recognize the response? Being able to discern God’s presence with us and His purpose for our lives involves the discipline not only of waiting patiently, but to have our spirits ready to receive. Spiritual readiness come through strengthening ourselves with the Word of God, through fellowship and worship with the people of God. And we can not forget daily communion with God. If we do these things we will be prepared no matter what season we are in.

As you know, Solomon was so well spoken, people traveled for days just to hear him read poetry. He was like a modern day Luther Van Dross with words and lyrics. It is written best in the book of Ecclesiastes chapter 3:1-8. As Solomon reflects on all of life, he expresses in a beautiful poem of 14 pairs of opposite events that God has a sovereign design behind all events:

(Eccl. 3:1-8) “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

As we journeyed through life we traced the Spirit of God in action. The Spirit that can change the lives of people and deliver us from days of uncertainty to days of grace. You see, by living a life that reflects the God’s goodness, we affect other people’s lives. We get closer to God’s kingdom when we become the agents of God’s unfailing grace and mercy. Make an impact in this world, no matter what season you are in. And in order to do that we must follow the qualities of life lived in God’s goodness: true, just, honorable, pure, pleasing, praiseworthy, and excellent. What quality of life are you living? It will make a world of difference whatever Season you are in with your life.
