As a whole to help improve the standards of funeral homes within the African American communities,” explained Frankie L Washington CFSP, president of the National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association Incorp. He also is part of Paradise Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. Washington said they met with black funeral home directors from across the state of Colorado to encourage them and promote those who are not mem- bers of the national association. Rev. Patrick Mumanerlyn said it was a historic day for funeral home direc- tors in Colorado. “I have been a member of the National Funeral Directors’ Association Incorp. since the age of 21. I am now 61. The association is here to embrace us and get us a charter started that will bring us under the umbrella of the national association,” he stated. “I am just ecstatic and overwhelmed that this dream has come true. Mr. Braswell (with Pipkin-Braswell Mortuary) and Mr. Caldwell (Caldwell- Kirk Mortuary) worked diligently behind the scenes to see this come to pass. All in God’s plans” Years ago, only four to five black owned funeral homes existed in the state, Mumanerlyn added, but now there are around 10. The National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association Incorp. has 1,000 members which includes abroad in Africa. National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association Inc.
