Edmonds donated to the college in their name and celebrated the naming of the class- room with his sister Judy Edmonds and members of the CC community Tuesday, June 4. “Frank Jr. and Hattie Mae Edmonds understood the essence of liberal learning, without ever knowing what a liberal arts education was,” Edmonds said in his speech. “It is my hope that this space, for genera- tions to come, will inspire the grace, determination, joy, and faith in learning that Frank Jr. and Hattie Mae inspired in their children: Janice, Judy, Frank III, and Mike.” Deacon Edmonds’ words above reflected his deep respect and admiration for his parents, Frank Jr and Hattie Mae Edmonds. “They taught me the value of faith—not only faith in the Lord, but faith in family, our community, and in education.” “Although my parents were deep southerners and have lived all over the world, they had a deep pas- sion for education, with my father had a special interest in history, especially the Buffalo Soldiers, and their impact on the Rocky Mountain west. I’m sure he never would have thought one of his children would end up living in Colorado! Having my parents’ name associated with this library is so special—as it reflects what was so important to them.” “It was a real blessing for Rev. Wynn, Rev. Dennis Mose, and Dr. Williams from the gospel music work- shop of America choirs to be there with me and my family at the college for this celebration. Our house was always filled with gospel music growing up, and having gospel at this dedication represented my par- ent’s faith and the strength that they had from their faith” said Edmonds.
