5 MARCH 2019 BODY OF CHRIST NEWS POLITICS Black Community Political Round Table The Colorado Black Round Table, the Body of Christ Newspaper and the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance will sponsor a Denver Mayoral, City Council & Clerk Candidates Forum on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 10am in the H. Davis Recreation Center. It is our goal to have all candidates running for the office of Denver Mayor, City Council from Districts 8, 9, 11, At-Large and City Clerk to be involved. Please accept this announcement as an invitation to attend and participate in this important Black Community political discussion. In addition, prior to the Candidate Forum, there will be a Community Education Update at 9:00am to dis- cuss community engagement oppor- tunities with DPS to better support the district, teachers and our stu- dents. CBRT will invite district and union leadership, teachers, former Black and Brown School Board mem- bers, community organizations and education advocates to this critical community discussion on a quality education for Black and Brown stu- dents, to participate. Further, at 12:00pm (noon) and in celebration of March being Women's History Month, CBRT will be rec- ognizing outstanding Black Women in the Denver metro area includ- ing Denver First Lady Mary Louise Hancock, AAICD Chair Maya Wheeler, International Human Rights Educator Paula Rhodes, MSUD Professor & Mental Health Practitioner Dr. Deborah Wilcox, First Bank Aurora Branch President Shannon Jones, Executive Director, Greater Denver Interfaith Alliance Dr. Carol Watkins Ali and a special recognition and Black Community Book Salute for nationally renowned photographer/ author Pat Duncan for her unbeliev- able book and pictorial journey of the Obama Years entitled "Defining The Times" and Businesswoman Carla Ladd's annual gift to the community "The Denver Metro Black Book" with the new "30 of the Metro Areas Most Influential Black Leaders" section and other important Black Community resource information.
