11 MARCH 2019 BODY OF CHRIST NEWS Caring & Sharing With Dara How many of us really recognize that homeless- ness is a rapid growing problem right here in Colorado? Did you know that there is a staggering amount of people living on the streets all over the Denver metro area? Among those are: families, youth, Veterans, elderly and those suffering with mental health. Many with nowhere to go, left to wander and left to wonder. What if it snows, where will I go? What will I eat, how will I shower? Some are even left to wonder if anyone really cares or even notice. What about the children. Do we think about the children that sleep in the cars at night or do most of us just think about where we will sleep at night? We constantly hear of real stories and real situa- tions from real people just like you and I experienc- ing the struggle of homelessness or just needing a helping hand right here in Colorado and the popula- tion is on the rise. Why is this? Could it be that during the last cou- ple of years several thousand of new comers migrat- ed here to become citizens. Maybe, it could be due to the beautiful Rocky Mountains, legalized marijuana, immigration, or less homes and apartments to name a few. Either way it seems that Colorado has been mapped out to be the “State of Opportunity.” These reasons surely add to the astounding number of people desperately seeking available resources and affordable housing. Have we sadly and quietly just accepted and made it easier to become homeless in our state? The continued growing population of new com- ers definitely takes an extreme toll on the Colorado housing market not to mention some of the other issues of outrageous rent due to landlord greed and low paying wages. Unfortunately, these issues could surely push more people into homelessness or other uncomfortable living arrangements. The reason I ask you to join me for a season of Caring & Sharing with Dara, is the reality that there are many people young and old that will endure months of cold, bitter and frigid temperatures. The reality is that there are people in need out there that could use our blessings. Spread love, plant hope and help if you can someone who is struggling through life for whatever reason.
