"We must pay more carefull atten- tion, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away." Now let's look at verse 9. "Because He suffered DEATH, so that by the grace of God he might TASTE death for everyone." So, did Jesus just sample death or did he in fact TASTE death by dying on the cross? So, what does the Word "TASTE" really mean, according to God's inter- pritation, when mentioned in Hebrews 6:4-6? The Strong's KJV Concordance defines the word "TASTED" to mean "to EAT-ATE," not dabbling, sampling or nibbling. The Vines dictionary-concordance takes a bias and more conservitive metaphorical approuch in defining the word TASTE-TASTED-TASTING. The Vines states, ("Heb 6:4 - of "tast- ing" the heavenly gift - different from RECEIVING it"). So, the Vines takes a stand by saying that the church goers in Hebrews 6:4-6 never truly RECEIVED the Lord as their Savior. So I tried to look up the word received in the Vines. Did you know, for some mysterious reason, you can- not find the word RECEIVED in their dictionary- concordance. Wow! I can just here a seminary trained theological expert saying, "there are a few different meanings to the word RECEIVED." Here is my response to that, "either Jesus raised the dead or He didn't!" Lazarus was not faking it! Remember Luke 8:13? "They RECEIVED it with joy. But because they have no root, they FELL AWAY." However, the Strong's KJV Concordance says, ("In various applications, literaly or figuratively- RECEIVED "accept-receive-take"). We will come back to Hebrews 6:4-6 in a minute. But, let's move on. 2 Peter chapter 2:20-21, for sure amplifies the understanding of falling away of TRUE CONVERTED believ- ers, especially in the NIV. "If they have escaped the corruption of the world by KNOWING our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are AGAIN entangled in it and overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the begin- ning. It would have been better for them NOT to have KNOWN the way of righteousness than to have KNOWN it and then to have turned their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them" (Rev 2:4). Again, those who are of the "once saved always saved" group will never admit that these people illustrated in 2 Peter 2:20-21, or in Hebrews 6:4-6 were truly saved believers that FELL AWAY.. So what's the BIG DEAL and what's the POINT?! It is important for preach- ers to make sure that they are feeding their sheep with the solid end time meat, building a solid foundation so that new believers are not carried away into the world with every wind of teaching. Once a true conversion takes place, it is Biblical to caution true believers in these very last days of the possibility of FALLING AWAY, with- out even KNOWING IT! Many today have already fallen asleep in the pew. "Thats OK! As long as they are giving, dont wake them up!" It's important to be feeding the sheep and not mislead- ing the sheep. (Matt 7:21, 25:1-13, Rev 2:4, 2Pet 2:19-21). Pastor Walrand-Baptist Pastor-10,000 members, "To think that Jesus is the only way to the Father is insainity" (You Tube). TOO FAR GONE! Friends! Jesus is the only way, regaurdless of what some mega church pastors are saying! Now, let's get back to Hebrews 6:4-6. "For it is impossible [to restore back to repentance] those who have once been enlightened [spiritually] and who have tasted, and have consciously experienced the heavenly gift and have shared in the Holy Spirit and have tasted and have consciously experi- anced the good word of God and the powers of the age (world) to come, and then have fallen away, it is impos- sible to bring them back AGAIN to repentance (Heb 6:4-6 Amplified AMP- AMPC). "If they shall FALL AWAY, to renew them AGAIN unto repentance" (KJV). Think about the word REPENTANCE that is used twice in Hebrews 6:4-6 in the Amplified and in the NLT trans- lations. Are the people in Hebrews 6:4-6 those who HEARD the word, or of those who RECEIVED the Word? Believers or unbelievers? It's obvious that the people illustrated in Hebrews 6:4-6 were church goers who FELL AWAY. Were they truly saved or not? Think about this. If someone was never truly saved, how can they be "restored BACK again" to repentance? Unsaved people don't understand repentance nor do they repent. Again, how can you restore an unsaved person back again to repentance! It would be dif- ferent if the writer said, "to restore them back to going to church," or, "to restore them back to hearing the Sunday morning sermons." It is the convicting power of the Holy Spirit, living in a true believer that leads one to repentance. Remember Luke 8:11-13? Jesus makes it crystal clear the difference between those who just heard the word, (dabbled, nib- bled, sampled the word) as opposed to those who RECEIVED it with joy, yet fell away. Many who believe in the "once saved always saved" gospel are compromis- ing the true salvation message. The ultimate blood will be on their heads! "For MANY will come in My Name, claiming that Jesus is the Christ, and will deceive many"(Matt 24:4-11).They truly believe that the only thing that is necessary to receive Jesus as your Savior is to simply bow your head and to say a prayer, "SAVED FOREVER by the grace of God." Well, that is true. That's how I got saved! But, according to the Bible, is your salvation secure, or, should we continue to put our sal- vation to the test, as we work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Phil 2:13, 2Cor 13:5, 1John ch's 1-2)? I hear people say all the time with excitement! "We lead this many into a prayer to receive Jesus!" Yet, the "once saved" group REFUSES to believe that the people that are dis- cribed in Hebrews 6:4-6, were true believers who fell away. They do not believe that those who have, "once been enlightened- who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have experi- anced the good things of heaven and SHARED in the Holy Spirit, who have TASTED the GOODNEWS of the Word of God and the POWERS of the coming age," were GENUINE BELIEVERS and RECEIVERS who fell away from a born again relationship with Jesus Christ. All translations cleary teach that "IF THEY FALL AWAY, they cannot be brought back (again) to REPENTACE." GONE ... from page 8 Continued on Page 23
