4 BOCNEWS.com MARCH 2018 ADVERTISEMENT Making The Dream an Economic Reality “It is God who gives you power to get wealth” — (Deut. 8:18) The MLK50: Colorado will take another step in making Dr. King’s dream an economic reality. MLK50: Colorado will be presenting the “Asset Investment and Development” Conference on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Manual High School, 1700 E. 28 Avenue, here in Denver. Toward the end of his life Dr. King was very much engaged in fighting for economic equality in this country. The fight for economic freedom and justice must continue with sound financial strate- gies coupled with our sense of sound social responsibility. The uniqueness of the AID confer- ence is that it will be conducted by certified credentialed financial educa- tors and financial advisors. Financial Investors and Financial Planners will also share investment opportunities and strategies. The JOBS (Jumpstart Our Business Start-ups) Act will be explained and discussed. In 2011, President Obama signed Dodd-Frank and the JOBS Act. Both changed the way business and investing are done in the finan- cial industry. Both pieces of legisla- tion opened the door of opportunity to invest in “business start-ups” to every person in America, regardless of income. Prior to the JOBS Act only certified investors with liquid assets of $1mil- lion could invest in business start-ups. This new “public” investment policy has created wealth opportunities for all people. With as little as $10 anyone can invest in a start-up, now! Don’t laugh. If you had been able to invest just $10 in Facebook in 2005 when it started and you cashed-out in 2012 as Peter Theil did with his initial invest- ment of $500,000, you would have earned over $200,000. From just a $10 investment! Investing in start-up companies through online crowd-funding is the wave of the future. This will be a very informative and rewarding conference. We look forward to a great time and having a fulfilling educational experi- ence with some highly qualified and professional financial services provid- ers. The AID conference will be from 9:00am-12:00pm. This summit is being supported by the Greater Metro Denver Ministerial Alliance (GMDMA), FACEIT (Family Advocacy and Crisis Education Intervention Team (FACEIT), and the Financial Education and Economic Transformation Center (FEET Center). The financial sponsor of the AID Conference is JACKSON NATIONAL LIFE INSURANCE, one of the largest annuity companies in the financial industry. The information, services, and education provided by these financial experts will be invalu- able and in most instances unafford- able to the underserved community. The AID Conference will be led by top local African-Americans in the financial field. Topics and workshops to be covered at the Summit are: 1) Financial Education for Youth and Adults 2) Financial Investing 3) Asset Development 4) Investment Opportunities for the General Public. A Continental Breakfast will be provided. This is a FREE conference opened to the public. Bring the entire family and let us begin the long over- due work of fortifying our finances and engaging in the economic transforma- tion God has ordained for all people. Let us make Dr. King’s dream and our dreams a reality by taking charge of, and authority over, our economic and financial health. By Reginald Holmes Reginald Holmes
