15 NOVEMBER 2017 BODY OF CHRIST NEWS Then I remembered to be proud of what former First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden have done in tackling those issues of veter- an unemployment, homeliness and working with military families over the past few years. Meanwhile, what made me angrier was watching the recent interview with Myeshia Johnson and what President Trump said about her hus- band. Army Sgt. La David Johnson was killed on Oct. 4 during an ambush in Niger, which our government is still investigating the incident on why his troop was over there. Three other sol- diers along with Johnson were killed. As with any president, calling the family of service members who died and giving their condolences is a responsibility. But President Trump couldn’t even do that right. Johnson’s widow said he stumbled the name of her husband. “That is what hurt me the most, because if my husband is out here fighting for our country, and he risked his life for our country, why can’t you remember his name,” she stated during the ABC Good Morning America interview. “That’s what made me more upset and cry even more, because my husband was an awe- some soldier.” U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson D- Fla is a friend of the Johnson family and was in the car during the con- versation with Johnson’s widow and President Trump that was put on speaker phone. She criticized the president for being insensitive. Now Wilson is afraid to go to Washington D.C. to do her job because of death threats she is receiving for speaking out against the president. A spokeswoman for Rep. Wilson said she was staying close to home for safety reasons. The congresswoman stated to the press what she heard on that day while riding in the car with Johnson to meet her husband’s body. She reiterated how President Trump told Johnson that her hus- band, “knew what he signed up for.” Trump fired back sending out tweets calling Rep. Wilson “wacky.” White House Chief of Staff John Kelly also called her names saying she was an “empty barrel.” Come on people wake up. Especially the Democrats who have allowed these types of things to go on too long since Trump took office. Had it been President Obama, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, they would have all been burned at the stakes as Republicans took action to see them removed from office. But I wait patiently and say it’s in God’s hands now. I admit to how much I use to love watching Trump on his TV show “The Apprentice.” Yes, forgive me. But it was only because I liked watching the interaction of celebrity personalities on the show. There is too much diversity in this country. We are all God’s children. So for the majority of American people who are already tired of President Trump’s antics, we can all join in saying those famous words he spouts: You are fired. Service to Mankind Jesus shared with His disciples that He came to the earth not to be served, but to serve. SERTOMA is an organization that epitomizes the Servant attitude of Christ – Servant to Mankind. And this organization searches for those in our communities who also epitomize that attitude of Christ. They search for those within their ranks but they also search for those who are not known to them. This year, Ambassador/Dr. D. Cenece Dixon was nominated and chosen to receive the Service to Mankind Award by the Greater Park Hill Sertoma Club under the leadership of Mr. Earnest C. Reese, Jr. who currently serves as the President of this particular group. When the award committee learned who Dr. Dixon is and the impact she has, not only on the Denver Metro Community but on a global level, they quickly received her as their club’s Service to Mankind award recipient. But this nomination did not stop at the local club level. The Greater Park Hill Sertoma Club went on to nominate Dr. Dixon for the Central District Service to Mankind Award and was invited to attend their awards luncheon on Saturday, August 12, 2017. The Central District SERTOMA Clubs include Dry Creek, Platte Canyon, Greater Park Hill, and SERTOMA Club of DTC. Each of the clubs had nominated someone in their area/community purview to receive this prestigious award. Out of the four participants nominated for this award, Dr. Cenece Dixon and the service she has been commissioned to accomplish in the community found favor with the nominations committees. Dr. Cenece Dixon is an Author, a Publisher, a Motivational Speaker, Apostle, Prophet, Teacher, Pioneer, and Philanthropist. She has earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated. She has traveled around the world, establishing churches and ministries in Africa and the United States. She has birthed mentoring programs for women who desire to start their own businesses, ministries, and churches. And she does all this in the service of the Lord. In 2016, Dr. Dixon created Colorado Unite for Louisiana Recovery to assist Louisiana flood vic- tims. Although giving others the opportunity to fund this and other programs to make a differ- ence in the United States and Africa, Dr. Dixon oftentimes puts her money in the proverbial pot first. In the recent cataclysmically devastating storms occurring in Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Puerto Rico, New Mexico and the Caribbean Islands, Dr. Dixon has now created the first of many more recovery efforts to support those who are in distress. Dr. Dixon is constantly on watch to see where she can lend a hand and do something to help someone else. The Service to Mankind award is only one of many awards Dr. Dixon has received that gives others a brief glimpse of who God has called and created her to be in this season of her life. She has been honored in her hometown, Opelousas, Louisiana, with Cenece Dixon Week by the Mayor of Opelousas. She has received the Boldness Award from The Arch Angel in Atlanta, Georgia. She was appointed as an Ambassador of the United Nations from CICA International University and Seminary along with an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity. One of her most pres- tigious awards was the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award presented to her by former US President Barack Obama. And yet, when you meet her, you will deter- mine in your heart that this is truly a humble servant of the Lord. Dr. Dixon is an extraordi- nary servant leader who willingly puts her hand to the plow to expand the Kingdom of Heaven on the Earth. Dr. Dixon is one who always goes out of the way to do what needs to be done many times at her own expense. Compassionate and with caring hands, Dr. Cenece Dixon is willing to hear and touch the hearts of the people. She ministers an uncom- promised Words of God with love, understand- ing, and authority through divine impartation, fresh revelation, and fervent intercession. Dr. Cenece Dixon is a vessel of God called to the forefront of ministry work for such a time as this. Family Life Center Pain, suffering, grief and loss can’t describe what Dr. Elvira Maxwell has gone through. But she has endured the trials and tribulations of life. And God brought her through it all. It gave Dr. Maxwell a new purpose in life by opening up the Maxwell Refuge Family Life Center that focuses on help- ing at-risks families, counseling, computer training, getting a GED, along with other life skills. “We have to look at life’s journey and have God in the center of your life,” Dr. Maxwell said and quoted from Isaiah 43:2 in the Bible. “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” Dr. Maxwell said she felt life was not worth living after the death of her two sons, who were murdered back in 1989. She then lost her mother, which around the same time her husband was diagnosed with breast cancer. Not long afterwards, her sister and a brother-in-law also died. Where was the light at the end of tunnel of tragedy, she wondered. But she said, God told her, “I am preparing you, so you are able to help others.” After receiving her masters and doctorial degrees in Christian counseling and urban ministries, she birthed the Maxwell Refuge Family Life Center, located at 7474 E. Arkansas Ave in Denver. Dr. Maxwell is also a strong advocate for strengthening families and wanting to see that family dynamic unbroken. She plans to host the Celebration of Families: Trendsetter Awards Banquet from 5-9 p.m. on Nov. 25 at the Park Hill Golf Course. She will honor different individuals in the community for playing a crucial role in the lives of their own families. The four honorees include: Ernie Reed who became a single father and is raising two children. Judy Jackson raised five grandchildren. Wynona Wright also raised sev- eral grandchildren. Peggy Barnes had a daughter who died giving birth to a son. Bond ended up raising that grandson along with eight other children. “I look our society and (the system) that doesn’t look at relatives as being good caregivers, “Dr. Maxwell stated. “The system won’t give these relatives help or financial assis- tance but rather put the children in foster homes, giving them thousands of dollars.” Dr. Maxwell urges everyone to come out and support the banquet on Nov. 25. Tickets are $35. For more information call 303-895-6617. IMPEACHMENT IS NEAR ... from page 11 COMMUNITY COMMUNITY By Beatrice Bruno
