13 JUNE 2017 BODY OF CHRIST NEWS Inspiring Hope in Christ Denver’s New Hope Baptist Church had humble bearings in 1921 with the church theme being: “Inspiring Hope in Christ.” Since 1921 New Hope has had 10 pastors with the first being the Reverend P. J. Price with the current Pastor Reverend Eugene M. Downing Jr., D. Min. In New Hope’s 96 year history; they have had countless of men and women who were ordained, that have pro- ceeded to preach and teach the gospel around the world. As accustom to Baptist theology Pastor Downing and the New Hope Church assembled an Ordination Council which presented a report and their findings of each candidate to be ordained. This year there were four candi- dates over all to be ordained; one as a minister and three as Deacons. Ordination Candidate for Minister: Dr. Ben Sanders III, who served an assis- tant to the late Dr. Vincent Harding at the Iliff School of Theology. Dr. Sanders received his PhD in Theology and Ethics at the University of Denver/Iliff School of Theology. Upon accepted his calling to the ministry; Dr. Sanders and now servers as in a posi- tion as Assistant Professor of Theology and Ethics at Eden Theological Semi­ nary in St. Louis, Missouri. Furthermore, there were three can- didates for Deacon: Brother Kenneth Wayne Dailey was baptized at New Hope in 1955; this is where his family was deeply involved with the Christian and Baptist ministry. Deacon Dailey said “that his biggest accomplishment in spiritual life, is that he and his wife brought-up two very Christian daugh- ters that he is very proud of.” Sister Pamela (Pam) Denise Jordon; was raised by her grandparents Deacon Lukie B. Bonner and Deaconess Mother Lessie B. Bonner at Union Missionary Baptist Church Denver, CO where Pam was Baptized by the late Reverend Dr. John T. Walker. In year 2000 Pam returned to her Christian upbring- ing and joined the New Hope Baptist Church where she now serves as the Superintendent of Sunday School. Sister Donna Chapman Pate was baptized at her spiritual home New Hope Baptist Church, upon leaving Denver whenever she return to Denver she always go the New Hope. Once she moved back to Denver Donna became an active member of New Hope; she stated “I’m seeking a closer relation- ship with God." I found myself reading her bible more frequently” She leads in devotion, Donna’s involved in children’s church and chairs’ the Sunrise Services. Pastor Reverend LaMonte Lane of Macedonia Baptist Church Denver gives these new ordained Minister and Deacons their charge. Bringing the word from Psalm 23; and remind- ing them of how they are the Under Shepherds to Pastor Downing as he is the Under Shepherds to Christ.
