I am always enlightened by those who share month after month. Randy and BOC have been a valuable conduit for sharing ideas, news, as well as relative and vital information impor- tant to our commu- nities and residents. Ironically BOC still struggles to maintain financially. So many of us who complain about having a voice and the importance of being heard BOC is that venue and yet they continue to struggle. Why? Since 2009 Excel supported this publication with a full page Ad. We believe now as we believed then, "any minority orga- nization offering a service to those in our community, for our commu- nity where we benefit we should give them our business." Sadly many think if I don't benefit directly I will not support. They need your financial support as many Black owned busi- nesses need your support. Where did we lose that way of thinking? As I read the entire December pub- lication I realized this month will be concluding this tumultuous and dis- appointing year. A year where Excel witnessed so many disappointments, I found encouragement in the Sermon by Sr. Pastor Edward Jaramillo, "The Power of Commitment." I would rec- ommend every BOC reader read this article, page 7. Even though Excel has continued the vision for into 33 years it is still an unrelenting chal- lenge. Thank you Pastor Jaramillo for your statement "if you are waiting to not have problems to serve God, my friend that does not exist!" I am persuaded that what we do each day in the interest of children serves God the Father. So through difficulties we must persist. In the Politics section of BOC it stated "A Time for Prayer Not Protest/'We as a nation have never garnered anything without prayer, protest and money. Prayer is essential in the life of a believer, but sacrifice is the true validation of our commitment. Nothing of value is accom- plished without sac- rifice. It may be sacrifice of time, position, sta- tus, support and yes finance. Jesus gave the perfect example. He came to bring restoration and sal- vation to a dying world, but not with- out a sacrificial lamb (Jesus himself). How do we believe we will accomplish restoration of human- kind, injustice, apathy, unity, and close the gap between the have and have-nots? So as we pray, give ....... our time .... our understanding, our devotion, our commitment, and don't just open our mouths to pray, but open our hearts and maybe then we can open our eyes, and we just may be moved to open your wallets. There is only one way and that is God's Way! So if change is what we seek, if ministry is what we seek, if help is what we seek .... St. Luke 6:38 has the answer .... "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." Lets' give God something to work with, prayer is an essential prelude but without giving our measure what do we expect to be returned????? Give!!!!! By Vivian Wilson Vivian Wilson
