8 BOCNEWS.comMAY 2016 Christian Entertainment Caf There is a heavenly scent filling the air in Aurora and the word is out. Not only can the palate be awakened by some good ole southern cooking but the soul is fed with some inspirational music. Everyone is talking about the HeAvenly Soul Caf in the former Cinema Grill building off Almeda and Potomac in Aurora. The owner Brian Robinson ful- filled a vision in opening a restaurant especially after much prayer. He got the idea last August after his beloved wife passed away from a brain aneurism. It would have been our second wedding anniver- sary said Robinson. I took a drive and thought about the restaurant. I had been in the restaurant business for 26 years down in Atlanta. I wanted to open a restaurant with her and was kind of at odds about doing it without her. I didnt know what to call it or what direction to go. After driving Robinson went to his mothers house and talked about the concept of the restaurant with his family a caf with live gospel music. His sister mentioned that using the old Cinema Grill building would be a great place for a restaurant not to mention showcasing musical gospel talent. Through much prayer and fasting he continued to ask God what he should do. He admitted he was still angry inside about losing his wife and that she wouldnt be there with him to open the restaurant. At her funeral service people had so many good things to say about her. She touched so many lives. So I wanted to do something significant. That same year in June I had surgery and thought I was going to pass away. So I wanted to have some kind of pro- visions for my children that would help take care of them for the rest of their lives. And so the restaurant became a reality with a capi- tal A in heavenly and a halo over it to represent his wife. The mission statement Feed the mind body and spirit - edifying God. It is a family owned business with no financial investors says Robinson as he and his children are the sole proprietors of the business daugh- ters Debra Robinson Danielle Johnson and sons Marcus Johnson and James Johnson. The menu is based on true southern cuisine from collard greens to catfish. Even as Robinson calls the world famous smoked fried wings are at the top of the popular dishes. Then there is Ruthell Peach cobbler a 101-year old recipe handed down by Robisons grandmother. On the entertainment side live performances take place from 630 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Young people enjoy the Christian hip hop nights on Fridays as well and get a chance to praise God through rap Robinson said. On Sundays a gospel singer or group performs that is sponsored by the churches. On Faith Entertainment hosts the Friday music night. Robinson is excited about the upcoming choir competition to take place at HeAvenly Soul Caf where the winning choir will receive 500.00 Food is served Tuesday through Sunday from 1030 a.m. to 9 p.m. Even when artists are not performing Christian music is playing in the back- ground all day to make sure people get that well bal- anced meal God wants for them. It has become a ministry where people can come to get fed. We had two people get saved and turn the lives over to Christ Robinson said proudly. HeAvenly Soul Caf located at 13682 E.
