Caldwell Jr. President Ruby Kirk-Gray Founder www.caldwellkirk.com Serving the Denver community for over 65 years. 2101 Marion Street Denver Colorado 80205 303-861-4644 Celebrating BlackHistory Month 4 BOCNEWS.comFEBRUARY 2016 And Jesus went about all Galilee teaching in their synagogues and preaching the gospel of the kingdom and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people Matthew 423 It would be of significant benefit to our country nation wide if as many churches as possible would get involved in church related health ministry. We can see from the text above that healing was in inte- gral part of the ministry of Christ along with preach- ing and teaching. Furthermore if we read carefully the Book of Acts we can find many instances were the apostles engaged in acts of healing e.g. Acts 3 1-8 Acts 14 8-10 I believe we should still have healing as a part of our church ministry. Today our methods may be different as we may spend our time teaching and educating people although we should still pray for healing for those who are ill and even do the laying on of hands and anointing people. We can also teach people to prevent illness or how to take care of themselves if they have chronic illnesses. We can do similar things to those a medical practitioner does as such people spend a significant amount of time teaching and educating people. Church can be places were we gather people together and as a group teach health information. We can also do things such as screening people for the presence of diseases. We need to learn how our churches can be places were people can find well- ness and healing. If we do this we will be doing what Jesus and the apostles did in their ministry. I would like to share with you now some informa- tion about how your church can do health ministry. You might be surprised about what you are able to do even if you have no medical background or training. This is necessary as your church may not have anyone with medical training who is a mem- ber of your church. In the African American com- munity in particular it is a common finding that people with medical training are in short supply. In America today about 6 percent of African Americans are physicians or nurses depending on the refer- ence source you read. Does this mean that because such professionals are in short supply we are not able to do health ministry Not at all as we can do things to teach educate and help people to live longer and better. We can educate ourselves as to how we can prepare ourselves to help people. We need to remember that people are destroyed for lack of knowledge Hosea 46 We can do something to help. First of all lets talk about some things you can do to get organized so you can do health ministry if you have accepted the fact that this is something you need to do. Your church needs a supportive Pastor. Then you need to have a heath ministry committee to study and plan things. Do not put the whole burden on your Pastor. The health committee may only need 4 or 5 diligent people to plan and implement things. You can lay out your strategy by planning a calendar for the year and making a list of things to focus on. Here is a suggested list of things to do Network with other churches community orga- nizations and health care facilities if possible Make sure you minister to your own congrega- tion in addition to people in the community Be aware of places in your community besides your own church where you can minister such as shopping centers libraries community centers community events and festivals and churches other than your own Utilize if possible medical professionals you may know from the community Look up information on web- sites. One excellent source is the 15 most popular Health Websites eBizMBA. You will find information written from the perspective of a non-med- ical person but very useful medical facts. You can share with others information you have learned. Understand this definition of health Health is a state of complete physical mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity The World Health Organization Encourage exercise in your church-and do it yourself Start a walking club in your church and if possible give away or have people purchase a pedom- eter to help count their steps Encourage at lease 30 minutes of exercise daily. Encourage weight control and a healthy diet. Encourage people to get help for addictions such as tobacco alcohol and drugs. Organizations in your community such as the American Heart Association the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association among others may have some excel- lent brochures and handouts although these may have to be purchased Encourage people to see their doctor on a regular basis especially if they have any chronic health issues or just want to stay well if they have no health issues Refer if needed those without health insurance to safety net clinics in your city that help the uninsured. You can make a list of such places from research looking at a local directory. These things mentioned may be a start to your health ministry. There is more information to come. May God bless you and give you good health and bless your ministry. HealthMinistryWithoutMedicalTraining Dr. Conner By Byron E. The Old Testament prophets warned about trusting in man and mans methods instead of in God. When Israel was tempted to appeal to Egypt for help against her enemies the prophet Isaiah warned the leaders Now the Egyptians are MEN and Not GOD and their horses are FLESH and not SPIRIT Isaiah 313. Could there be any plainer distinction When man finds himself in desperate situ- ations why would he call on others who are no greater than himself Should we not call on the One who is God rather than relying on the abilities of man But is the same not true of individuals When you find yourself in a quandary dont rely on your own devices. Combs The Effects of Police Misconduct After the Michael Brown incident in Ferguson Mo. followed by other actions that end up leading to the death of a black person by police more awareness and conversations are tak- ing place around the country. In particular one conversation that will take place is Does Police Misconduct Matter to the Black Church according to the Rev. Dr. Timothy Tyler pas- tor of Shorter African Methodist Episcopal Church in Denver. Rev. Tyler will lead a panel discussion at the Los Angeles Regional Center in Los Angeles Calif. In February. He is also a candidate for bishop with the nation- al AME Church. The makeup of the leadership of Black Lives Matter was started by females with LGBT Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender commu- nity and Black Millennials a cul- tural empowerment movement involv- ing young Blacks under age 35 who have dedicated their efforts in making the world understand that black lives matter and black bodies should be respected said Rev. Tyler. People speak about black on black crime but any community where you have a majority of the same race of people then the crimes will be perpetrated by those people. There is Black crime in the Black communities just as there is Hispanic crime in the Hispanic communities. Historically after Blacks left Africa through the Middle Passage into slav- ery and up through the Civil Rights movement we have been taught by society to hate ourselves. Slaves were intoxicated by the master who would watch them fight each other. That is why Rev. Tyler added with so many reported cases of blacks dying at the hands of law enforcement within the last two years churches need to get involved. The issues is just as important in Denver as it is around the country. Statistics from U.S Police Shootings Database and KilledbyPolice.net show where 102 unarmed Black people were killed by police in 2015. Only 9 of the 102 cases resulted in officers being charged with the deaths of those Black men and women. This includes Michael Lee Marshall of Denver who was killed last November. This campaign Does Police Misconduct matter to the Black Church will help find out what the church can do to become a more intri- cate part of helping eradicate police misconduct Rev Tyler said about the big Los Angeles event. It will be live streamed on the Internet starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 6. The web address is httpwww.short- ername.orgpctyler-bishop.html. The church and community has a lot of work to do. We need those revolu- tionaries and freedom fighters to pull together so these tragedies wont con- tinue happening over and over again expressed Rev. Tyler. COMMUNITY Timothy Tyler Rev. Tyler is pastor of Shorter AME Church 3100 Richard Allen Court in Denver. Worship services are Sundays at 1000 a.m. 6 BOCNEWS.comFEBRUARY 2016 SCRIPTURE Born To Win Galatians 313-14 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law having become a curse for us for it is written Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Redeemed means God has already done it Hes not going to do it because Hes already done it. Why has God not deliver me Hes not going to do it because God has already done it. Why has God not healed me Hes not going to do it because God has already done it. You were not just saved the year you thought you got saved you were saved over 2000 years ago but you responded the year you gave your life to Christ. You were bought with a price the blood of Jesus is the price God paid to purchase you. Your purchase price is higher than what could be paid with natural man. Many people think that there are some things that are beyond them but the truth is that you worth more than anything on earth. A Rolls-Royce is not more precious than you no house is so far fetched for you. No neighborhood is too expensive for you to live in. You should not be intimidated about things because you are more precious. Israelites saw themselves as grasshoppers and God did not do anything but to allow them to die as grasshoppers but allow the next generation that saw themselves as people who can take the land. You see God has the best for you but if you dont see yourself of worthy of enjoying it then you will not enjoy it. Sin consciousness makes us to think as if we have never been redeemed. Sin consciousness brings in condemnation and unworthiness. It robs us of cre- ativity and we always punish yourself and always in the mode of lack and we keep begging God for every- thing. Just like Lazarus the beggar. It was not Gods intention for the beggar to be saved begging. He was nevertheless saved but died begging and God let him. If you let yourself beg then God will let you beg. When you were redeemed you were redeemed from poverty sickness and death. It all comes with the package. But if you dont have the consciousness of your right you will be left alone to enjoy what you want to enjoy. Righteousness consciousness brings a sense of victory you dont get into argument with people and you Deuteronomy 2122-23 22 If a man has committed a sin deserving of death and he is put to death and you hang him on a tree 23 his body shall not remain overnight on the tree but you shall surely bury him that day so that you do not defile the land which the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance for he who is hanged is accursed of God When you hang him on a tree do not leave him there all night because he is devoted to the Lord for destruction. Joshua captured the kings and he hanged them but did not let them be on the tree overnight. Numbers 217-9 7 Therefore the people came to Moses and said We have sinned for we have spoken against the LORD and against you pray to the LORD that He take away the serpents from us. So Moses prayed for the people. 8 Then the LORD said to Moses Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole and it shall be that everyone who is bitten when he looks at it shall live. 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent and put it on a pole and so it was if a serpent had bitten anyone when he looked at the bronze serpent he lived. Moses made a serpent of brass. When they look on the serpent on the brass which is a divine judgment they got healed. The serpent on the pole a sign of Medical profession. You look at the serpent on the pole and healing take place. All this is pointing to Jesus. Now lets look at what religion can do to people. 2 Kings 184 4 He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars cut down the wooden imaged and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it and called it Nehushtan. This is what religion does to you. Now they are worshipping the pole. Many people have cross on their necks and some cross still have Jesus on it but Jesus is no longer on the cross. You must be careful that you are not worshipping the object. John 1919 19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. God is setting the stage that Jesus was to hang on the cross as predicted in the Old Testament. Jesus will hang everything on the cross that only blessing will remain. Pilate did not know what he was doing but God was setting them up. John 1930 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine He said It is finished And bowing His head He gave up His spirit Here it in not redemption that is finished because he has not went to show himself to the Father but what is finished is the law. It is finished Old law is finished. He gave up His spirit. We have been redeemed from poverty sickness and death. Both physical and spiritual. John 1932-33 32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead they did not break His legs. You see Joseph the Arimathea went to get His body and Pilate asked if He was dead already because they did not kill Him He gave up the spirit. You are not to be sick but you are to resist sickness and stay healthy. We have been teaching on sin but we have to be teaching on righteousness. It is not Gods will that you be poor but God will allow what you will allow. God has given you choice on what you going to be settled for including how long you want you want to live how rich you want to be how successful you want to be. When you talk about redeemed from the curse God did not curse but He only told them the result of their action. The curse was already on the earth. Genesis 215-17 5 Then the LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man saying Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. Death did not come from God. Death is a pervasion of life. Satan tried to become God and God put him out so Satan came after Adam and Eve in a subtle way. Commandment is not just about 10 commandments. It includes any- thing and everything God told us to do. Genesis 3 Adam disobeyed Gods command and iniquity came into him and he got the same death spirit in him the enemy has he lost the revelation fellowship and faith he got He now has fear and death in him. When God asked him what have you done He started to blame God. He was blaming God for what God did not do. We do the same today in the church we blame God for the sickness we blame God for the problem we face we blame God for what He did not do. The command is whatever God tells you to do. The curse is in the earth it is around and they are looking for somebody that they can attach themselves to. They come like demons of can- cer they come like demons of addiction demons of pornography demons of homosexuality etc. You see God did not leave us that way at the mercy of demons He provided a way out and asked us only to believe what He says and obey what He says. So the Bible say they that believe can cast out demon they can lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. Healing the sick casting out demon reversing the disorder. Those that believe. Adam did not walk in faith in God and came under curse but Jesus says those that believe will restore the original master plan. Jesus became the curse for us. He did not take the curse away from the earth but He became the curse for me and now He became my shield from the curse. We are always in the blame game. Always looking for whom to blame for our sins and weaknesses The disciples asked Jesus about a man who was born blind Who sinned this man or his parents Blame game again But Jesus was not going to play the blame game. Satan caused it. What you accept you will enjoy. If you accept generational sickness you will enjoy it but that is your fault. Deut. 2815 5 But it shall come to pass if do not obey the voice of the LORD your God to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you You have to cooperate with Gods command. In your wealth creation and termination of poverty He said Give and it shall be given unto you... Mark 435-38. Jesus had a head and He had a pillow. 35 On the same day when evening had come He said to them Let us cross over to the other side. 36 Now when they had left the multitude they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose and the waves beat into the boat so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern asleep on a pillow. On each leg of the journey learn- ing sharing and growing in the knowledge of God. Each leg of the journey being preparation for my final assignment. When I raised my right hand and took the oath to join the Army all I had was my faith that God would cover me on this journey. After 24 years of service in the Army meeting the needs of others in the Logistics field Gods word and His work was always at the fore- front of my life. I arrived on this leg of the journey in June 2012 after a brief conversation with Pastor Emeritus James H. McMearn. A spiritual giant in his work the Lord spoke to Rev. McMearn via Duet 27 The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilder- ness. There are three things that deserve our attention to this matter that Id like to examine. 1 What is the source of the conflict where Black life is not being valued 2 What is the solution that addresses the problem at its root level And 3 is the Black Church relevant anymore where it con- cerns correcting sociopolitical conflict Black Lives Matter Black Lives Matter BLM is a campaign or move- ment that started in the summer of 2013 when George Zimmerman was acquitted for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin and social media voices erupted with much pushback that ended with the hashtag BlackLivesMatter. Since then there has been a focus of attention on the common place rate of Black deaths that have occurred without any of the shooters being found guilty of a crime or some- times not even being charged with a crime. Et al. Tamir Rice Eric Harris Walter Scott Jonathan Ferrell Sandra Bland Samuel DuBose Freddie Gray etc. So the movement originally intended to challenge the cultures unwillingness to punish transgressors for killing Black people. When White jurys and Grand Jurys and Prosecutors and Police Officers fail to apply the same standard of protection to Black people as they do any other cultural person then the question is why arent Black lives valued equally When racism or White Supremacy is offered as a plausible cause we run into a small contradiction. That is many of the transgressors have Black skin so White racism cant be the sole culprit for devalu- ing Black life. Case and point according to wnd. com the total number of murders in Chicago from Jan. 31 2003 to Dec. 31 2012 was 4797 while the number of deaths in Afghanistan was 2166 from Oct. 7 2001 until now. So if you include the huge numbers of Blacks being gunned down in Chicago the number of Black on Black crime accounts for the majority of the death toll numbers. Many argue that this is a false correlation with systemic Black Death because when Black people kill each other the action is considered criminal and is normally punished to the fullest extent of the law. The only prob- lem with that is that most of the murder- ers are not being found and the question is whether or not there is a real effort to find these folks Nonetheless Black death and brutality that is perpetrated by the system is justified by any means necessary even when we have the smok- ing gun the video tape and the confession. Either way whether the transgression is committed by the system or the thugs nothing of significance is hap- pening to stop the bleeding. Thus why arent Black lives being valued Social Politics Whats also upsetting about this conflict is the fact that the Civil Rights community is absolutely confusing its main philosophy of integration with the counter argument of independence and self-reliance. There is this profound sense of back and forth about the social engineering of what belongs together and what should be separated where it concerns the protection of Black life. In other words promot- ing the idea of integration is celebrated in America when it comes to sharing resources like schools jobs churches lunchrooms etc. But when it comes to events of socioeconomic crisis in the Black com- munity the tone changes miraculously to a format of separation and the community members are asked to fix their own dam problems I hear questions like what are Black people doing to end the violence in their own communities Why arent Black people building their own grocery stores bc of food des- erts or setting up their own banks Where is the integrative voice of collaborative products services and shared responsibility Its as if the only thing that we can agree to get energized about is confu- sion. Members of a particular culture should do what they can to preserve the integrity of the culture because that is the substance that sustains your survival whether you want to acknowledge it or not. There have been many sacrifices made for the benefit of this generation and therefore what do we owe to its preservation for generations one thousand years from now Attempting to function with autonomy as a cultur- al entity is a good idea. We point to Asian and Jewish communities to provide an example of successful cultural structures that operate within the historical foundation of their value systems. Success is the result of the maintaining the integrity of the cultural base which has evolved over thousands of years. Life within this context matters because the ancestral connectivity makes it so. White people do not have to start a campaign to have their life valued because the culture promotes defends and advances its own survival. All you need to do is look at the angry and defensive energy in the White community Confederate Flag Historical parks Border control Militia groups etc. to see that they value their ancestral culture. Why not defend the best of Black culture so that the integ- rity of Black life can also be valued from within and from without Black Lives Matter is an ideological campaign that makes sense for people whose lives have not been valued appropriately whether its inside or outside of the person. The thought is to elevate the consciousness of all transgressors who need help with the infection of ignorance. Is the Church Relevant Finally I would like to address the argument that points to the value system of Black people as the cause for lowering the value of Black Life. Statistically the evidence suggests that we clearly do a lot of destruction to one another. But when you look at value systems youre looking at evaluating the thoughts and images that drive the behavior or activ- ity of the person. In other words behavior comes from thoughts and images that people entertain. So we have to ask where is the Black community get- ting the thoughts and images that are responsible for guiding our behavior generally speaking Well according to the Pew Research Center Jan 2009 87 of African-Americans describe themselves as belonging to one religious group or another. 79 of African Americans say religion is very important in their lives compared with 56 among all U.S. adults. More than half of African-Americans 53 report attending religious services at least once a week more than three-in-four 76 say they pray on at least a daily basis and nearly nine-in-ten 88 indicate they are absolutely certain that God exists. On each of these measures African-Americans stand out as the most religiously committed racial group in the nation. According to Blackdemographics.Com 83 of African Americans describe themselves as Christians. The point here is that when the values of the Black community are called into question the above data is clear that the vast majority of us get our values scripts from religion. So if youre questioning Black values then in reality what youre really questioning is the quality of our religious prac- tice because thats what were valuing. If 83 of the Black community has accepted By Randall Craven LPC CAC III Randall Craven Why not defend the best of Black culture so that the integrity of Black life can also be valued from within and from without Black Lives Matter is an ideological campaign that makes sense for people whose lives have not been valued appropriately whether its inside or outside of the person. We can loose ourselves from any control in darkness Isaiah 522. We can exercise power and authority for our own lives. Jesus told us to remove the plank from our own eye Luke 642. Israel experienced many deliverance in its history. We have already expe- rienced many deliverance in our lives up to now. When we look back over our life and think about how God has brought us out of so many situ- ations all we can say is thank you Jesus. The nation of Israel began with a mighty deliverance. David the King received many deliverance. He called upon the Lord for deliverance and was heard. Psalm 344. God answers the cries and prayers of His people. Gods deliverance is always a sign of His love and mercy amen. I can truly say he has brought me out of some situations that I didnt know what to do.but HE heard my cry. In this new year 2016 Its time to take spiritual responsibility for your life. Dont depend on everyone else for your spiritual well-being. Confess the Word over your life. Pray strong prayers that rout the enemy. Do not allow self-pity to hold you back. Stir yourself up to prayer. This is a key to an overcoming life. Your deliverance is as close as your mouth. There are many people frustrated with life. People who struggle can become over whelmed by doubt and failure. Some are bat- tling stress and pres- sure which often leads to emotional and physical problems. Jesus spent a considerable amount of time ministering to the oppressed. Multitudes came to hear Him in order to be healed and delivered from evil spirits. Every child of God has a right to enjoy the benefits of deliverance. Deliverance brings freedom and joy. We have seen thousands of believers set free from demons through authoritative prayer. Deliverance is a miracle ministry. We can see multiplied miracles through warfare prayer. The breakthroughs you will see are supernatural. Healing will multiply. Long-term bondage will be destroyed. Hidden roots will be exposed and elim- inated. Major problems will be solved. Stubborn obstacles will be removed. The repeated cycles of failure will be broken. Thats the power of warfare prayer. Frustration and despair will be eliminated through warfare prayer. Discouragement and disappointment will be Overcome. Puzzling problems of life will be taken away. Lasting peace can finally be experience. The abundant life can be enjoyed. Those who experience deliverance and release will see nota- ble changes. Sometimes the change is progressive and sometimes instanta- neous. The change how- ever will be dramatic. Thank you Jesus There will be an increase of joy liberty peace and suc- cess. All this will result in a better spiritual life with an increase of strength and holiness. All storms come to an end. Patience is necessary to see our breakthrough. God prom- ised Israel that He would drive the enemy out little by little Deuteronomy 722 Exodus 2329-30. Unless you understand this principle you will become weary in praying for some peo- ple and you will discouraged in your own deliverance. You must understand the principle of deliverance in order for it to work or you wont receive it. The more freedom you will receive the more you need to grow and possess your land Deuteronomy 81. Dr. Elvira Gavin Maxwell is seeking to change that by helping unite families through the new Maxwell Refuge Family Life Center opening on the first of February. We provide counseling and plan to pull unite and strengthen families Dr. Maxwell explains about her goals for the center. There is a breakdown in the family unit. If the fam- ily is not strong then our children go astray we want to help unite families back together. The centers focus is on families from single par- ents to grandparents raising children and others facing situations within their family unit. It will also provide mentor- ing parenting as well as domestic vio- lence and anger management classes and other programs. Maxwell adds that part of the first phase opening of the center will include performing arts that will teach individu- als how to act out and deal with their problems on a stage. We hope to use the stage to build self-esteem and self-confidence and help people get in touch with themselves Dr. Maxwell states. God spoke to me since I had been working with at-risk children and said these at-risk families also need help. The Maxwell Refuge Family Life Center is locat- ed at 8720 E. TESTIMONY 17FEBRUARY 2016BODY OF CHRIST NEWS THE RAPTUREFor the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 416-17 Many of us have watched the movie Left Behind. It is a graphic portrayal of those who are left behind when the rapture comes. Some who thought they should have been raptured find themselves left behind and questioning themselves as to why. They seemingly have done all they things required of them believed on the Lord Jesus Christ confessed Christ as Lord and Savior been baptized attended church prayer meeting and bible study. In other words they have exercised all the spiritual disci- plines which we as disciples are called to do. Yet they were left behind. Interestingly some of those left behind are preachers of the gospel. Somehow it would appear there is a difference between profess- ing and possessing a real faith in Jesus. The first event in the sequence of upcoming end- times events is the rapture of the church out of this world. What Is The Timing Of The Rapture For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of an archangel and with the trumpet of God. The rapture will be an audible event. With a shout with the voice of an archangel and with a trumpet blast believers will be called to assembly in the air with Christ. The rapture precedes the tribulation. It is an emi- nent event meaning that it can occur at any time. It is an event to which no signs or indicators are attached. It can occur with no warning and no more preceding signs than presently exist. The rapture is a signless event. What is said of the second coming is also true of the rapture. Matthew 2436 declares But of that day and hour no one knows not even the angels of heaven but My Father only. The term rapture comes from the Latin word rapio which means a snatching away in the Latin. Christians who are alive at this time will be caught up to meet the Lord Jesus and will at that moment receive their glorified bodies. Those Christians who have died since the church began at Pentecost will also be involved in the rapture having their physical bodies raised from the dead and receive their resur- rected glorified bodies 1 Cor. 155153. What About Those Who Have Already Died And the dead in Christ will rise first. At the time of death 2 Corinthians 58 informs us as to the status of the deceased We are confident yes well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord. Although our bod- ies are consigned to the ground our souls go to be with the Lord in Heaven. Those believers who have died whose souls now dwell in the presence of God will at the time of the rapture have their bodies res- urrected and meet with Jesus in the air. Those of us who are alive will follow them in glorified bodies. First Corinthians 1550-53 gives us further insight into this change both for the dead and the living Now this I say brethren that flesh and blood can- not inherit the kingdom of God nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold I tell you a mystery We shall not all sleep but we shall all be changedin a moment in the twinkling of an eye at the last trum- pet. For the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption and this mortal must put on immortality. I am not sure exactly what a glorified body looks like but it would seem based on Jesus resurrection from the dead that it will be a recognizable body. A body that may bear some signs of living and dying as Jesus resurrected body still bore the nail prints in his hand but somehow it is described as a glorified body. One that in spite of having had earthly limita- tions now has none in the presence of God. The Corinthians had a similar concern and question. But some- one will say How are the dead raised up And with what body do they come 1 Corinthians 1535. Paul does not have a concise answer and relates the germination and death of a seed being required and necessary before there can be a plant. He says speaking of seed But God gives it a body as He pleases and to each seed its own body. vs. 38. In verses 42-44 he relates it to the change of the resurrected body So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishon- or it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body and there is a spiritual body. The bottom line is that he did not know what a glorified body looked like but assumed that whatever form the resur- rected body took it would be different and immortal. However it starts out its maturity its glorification would be something different. The rapture will include living believers as well as believers who have died both be in some form of a glorified body to meet Jesus in the air. Who Of Those Living Will Be Raptured Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. The apostle Paul teaches that true believers in Christ 1 Thessalonians 41-12 will suddenly be caught up into the air by the power of Christ and will meet with him in the air. The people involved in the rapture are believers but more specifically they are said to be those who are in Christ 1 Thess. 416. Only those who are part of the church the body of Christ will be part of the rapture event for they are the only ones who are in Christ. The rapture will include all believers from the day of Pentecost to the rapture event itself. Those who are in Christ are the ones who have been placed into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit 1 Cor. 1213. This work of Spirit baptism did not begin until the day of Pentecost. It was on that day Acts 2 that the church of Jesus Christ began. Does true believers mean that only those who are perfect will be caught up The only way any of us can stand in a perfected state before Jesus Christ in that hour is through the merits of His shed blood. Second Corinthians 521 declares For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. This is our perfec- tion in addition the Bible states that ever believer is a member of the body of Christ 1 Corinthians 1212-13. If only those who meet a certain standard of spirituality be taken the body of Jesus Christ would be dismembered and disfigured. This is an impossibility. I am so glad that 1 Corinthians 1551 states Behold I tell you a mystery We shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed. What Will Become Of Those Raptured And thus we shall always be with the Lord. John 141-3 is the first mention of the rapture event in the Scriptures. It is a famil- iar verse and often quoted at funer- als without the understanding of its significance in end-time events. Let not your heart be troubled you believe in God believe also in Me. In My Fathers house are many man- sions if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you I will come again and receive you to Myself that where I am there you may be also. Jesus promised a place where those who are in Christ will be with him. The rapture is a most important event for believers and the church because those who are raptured will not go through the tribulation. During the tribulation the wrath of God is poured out on unbelievers and focuses on sin and sinners. Since believers have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ there is no purpose for the church to endure it either for sal- vation or sanctification and therefore the church is removed from the earth during from the time of the tribulation. A few scriptures that assure us that the church will be raptured and not experience the Tribulation 1 Thessalonians 59 For God did not appoint us to wrath but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ Revelation 310 Because you have kept My com- mand to persevere I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world to test those who dwell on the earth. Therefore our goal as believers is to be part of the rapture What is to become of those raptured One result is that the promise of Christ to come back for His own is fulfilled. A second result of the rapture will be the completion of our salvation. Although Christ fully paid the redemption price for our salvation the reality is that we are not yet fully saved. Romans 823 reminds us that we are waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons the redemption of our body. A third result of the rapture will be the uniting of all believers. The truth of the rapture was given to bring comfort to those believers who have experienced separation from loved ones 1 Thessalonians 48. We also should be daily looking for anticipating Christs return. Keep the words of the Apostle in mind as he reflected on the second coming And do this knowing the time that now it is high time to awake out of sleep for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. The night is far spent the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness and let us put on the armor of light Romans 1311-12. Today is the day of salvation. Today is the day of forgiveness today is the day of life offered now through faith in the Son of God. He died because of your sin and He rose from the dead to make you right with the Father. Therefore the message we deliver to you is that which is found in the Letter to Roman Christians that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteous- ness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. That passage concludes with a glorious promisea promise which is for you if you will but receive it For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 109 10 13. Amen William T. Golson By Pastor William T. Golson SERMON The rapture is a most important event for believers and the church because those who are raptured will not go through the tribulation. During the tribulation the wrath of God is poured out on unbelievers and focuses on sin and sinners. 18 BOCNEWS.comFEBRUARY 2016 19FEBRUARY 2016BODY OF CHRIST NEWS We want your news Body of Christ News wants to hear about your calendar events announcements or conferences. As a professional transformation and fitness coach I have noticed that most people do not remain on the new regi- ment because they focus on their external condition instead of their internal state of mind. Fitness starts from the head down not the shoulders down. Mental fitness is equally as important if not more important than physical fitness. Changing ones lifestyle over- night can be a challenge and a bit stressful. Heading to the gym and challenging your body or running for 6 miles can be counterproduc- tive in the end if your mind is not ready for the shift. If you want to make changes in your life you first need to deter- mine what is preventing you from being success- ful. The cause is almost always the way you are using your mind the way you are thinking. For as he thinketh in his heart so is he Eat and drink saith he to thee but his heart is not with thee Proverbs 237 It is not possible to think both negative and posi- tive thoughts at the same time. One or the other will dominate. The mind is conditioned by consis- tent thought patterns so its your responsibility to make sure that positive emotions and thoughts are the dominating influence in your mind. A cheerful heart is good medicine but a crushed spirit dries up the bones Proverbs 1722 To change external conditions in your life you must first change from within. Omitting this step will render your efforts ineffec- tive and the results will be at best temporary. You must change your thoughts and beliefs to truly change. Train yourself to think thoughts of joy success happi- ness health and prosperity while removing negativity fear and worry. Just as water takes shape of the vessel that contains it whether it is a cup a bottle or a pond your mind will create and demonstrate the images you consistently think about daily. This is how your des- tiny is created. Your new life can be created by new thoughts. Fill your mind with great expectations ensuring that your thoughts are consistently focused on what you truly want in your life. In the same way that we fast from food and make New Years commitments to eat healthier we should commit to take a mental fast from nega- tive thoughts and conversation. I call this a men- tal diet. Contact me at email transformmtfit- ness.com 719-357-7646 to get more information and instruction on mental fasting. What are you waiting for... Judas was the treasurer because Jesus had money. Judas was steal- ing the disciples did not even know it. Jesus was not broke because He had treasures and there was money in the account. Job 11-5 1 There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job and that man was blameless and upright and one who feared God and shunned evil. We are not afraid to address the fact that some of our youth are better served with the alternative to college Trade School training. Self Esteem strengthens edifies and motivates the hearts of our children developing confidence and hope which is so vitally needed in our competitive society. Nutrition and Fitness which reinforces how our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost and the things that the youth are so easily entrapped in that destroy our bodies e.g. energy drinks If the After Gods Own Heart program only offered the above curriculum that would be something to smile about however the objective of the program is not to Smile but to REJOICE. The Word of God tells us to train up a child in the way he should go and when he grows old he will not depart from it. Our youth have too many negatives influences available to them with social media alone. Here is an example from the Word of God many of us know all too well My people perish for a lack of knowledge to whom is this really addressed Not the people but both the people and the priest the ministers. Lets take a careful informed look at the famous verse so often quoted. Hosea 46 it has 3 parts not one PEOPLE PRIEST CHILDREN. Study the word even further and add to your understanding. Example HOSEA 4 9 It Will Be Like People Like Priest HOSEA 51 Hear oh priest give heed house of Israel judgement applies to YOU . Matthew 2313-15 adds more light combined with Mark 7 3513. Christians as the faith of choice then why is our behavior getting worse even though we practice the religion more faithfully than anyone else When the mainstream media discuss the values of the Black community they have to be asessing the effectiveness of their own religious system because were practicing what Europeans presented as a Truth guiding system. We accept and practice the system to the best of our ability so shouldnt we also assess its effectiveness against the illnesses and failures that we are currently experiencing to a greater degree than other cultural groups If Black Life really Matters then why arent we fixing Black culture so that we can experi- ence success and health. Instead of pursuing the sciences of engineering botany psychology economics and the like our youth are chasing money and entertainment. Will our culture survive on a steady diet of comedy music movies and sports Whats interesting is that the domi- nant culture practices the religion less than we do as they secretly admit that it isnt working for them either The Pews study indicates that more and more American adults are dropping religious affiliation from their identity. Almost one in four Americans and more than one-third of those aged 18 to 33 now claim no religious affiliation. According to a CNN report May 2015 more than one-third of millennials now say they are unaffiliated with any faith up 10 percentage points since 2007. Various Christian researchers includ- ing LifeWay Christian Resources docu- ment the trends and factors dissuading people from religious affiliation. Some are listed here as follows Christians are judgmental andor hypocritical Churches are always asking for money I disagree with the ethical political or social stance I dont want to identify with organized religion. Lets be clear this critique is not stating that God is not important it is stating that orga- nized religion in its current form is failing to meet the needs of the people. If a public school system if failing to successfully educate the vast majority of its students then ultimately we have to look at the flaws in the system or are we going to continue to blame the students If the guiding principle the church was working then why is there such division in the community The mani- festation of the lack of unity is legions. Are we really practicing monotheism as we continue to separate things that belong together such as the people Consider just a few examples 1 boy- cott the Oscars vs. attend the Oscars 2 Celebrate your own actors vs. the Image awards are racist 3 build our own schools vs. go to Harvard 4 eat pork smoke cigarettes drink liquor vs. the script-ture youre going to die from something 5 Celebrate Christmas vs. you know Jesus wasnt born on the 25th6 Worship on the Sabbath Saturday vs. Sunday is tra- dition 7 You know there is no letter J in the Hebrew alphabet so how did you get the name Jesus Versus we accept the English derivation 8 Why did you name that baby Lakeisharanda see what happened is that the way my bank account is set-up Really is there any rhyme or reason for nam- ing our children We dont know who we are anymore If Black Life Matters then it will matter because its survival comes from the strength of the culture. If we dont find who we are culturally which includes the genetic memory of our historical spiritual development systems then the long awaited return of our salvation becomes ever more distant.
